About this listen

I'm not supposed to resonate to him.

It's been a few years since I've landed here on Icehome Beach, and as resonance after resonance dwindled the list of bachelors, I knew who I'd end up with. As soon as we got past our differences, I'd end up as R'jaal's mate.

On an everyday excursion, however, my khui decides otherwise. It sings all right...but not to R'jaal. Instead, I resonate to I'rec—the forceful, brash, overly-alpha leader of Shadow Cat. Did I mention he's got a long-distance girlfriend already?

It's a big mess, and it's about to get messier.

But as things get chaotic on the beach and our way of life is threatened with upheaval, it's the small things that end up mattering. Small things like the way I'rec kisses. Or the way we seem to have a lot more in common than we thought. Or the way I'rec can be gentle, but only with me....

Contains mature themes.

What? No man-bun on the cover art?

These growly, lovable aliens are my comfort food. I’rec is gruff and grumpy, but really just a teddy bear. And really, how could anyone be scared of an alien sporting a man-bun and calling gladiators ’tators’?

The first half was pretty standard for this series, with the conflict being that both Flor and I’rec thought they’d resonate with others. Flor’s insecurity about him leaving her once she’s knocked up goes on a bit longer than I’d like. Despite the growly nooky, the naughty parts weren’t anything that we haven’t heard over the last sixteen books. There’s a certain sameness to the sex and the stories … maybe that’s why these are like comfort food; mac-N-cheese may not be gourmet, but it makes me happy.

Luckily, the second half of the story tees up the next spin-off series, giving fresh humans, aliens, and a mystery plot about missing folks. The original series was Ice Planet Barbarians (first six books remain my favorites). This series spun directly off of that one and has some character crossover. The Corsairs and Risdaverse series leave the Not Hoth planet, but are still set in the same universe. The new series teed up here begins with R’Jaal’s Resonance. I liked that book even better than this one, in part because the earlier books in each series tend to have the best plots and couples.

One of my new favorites.

How many is too many favorites in a series. This one is one of the fun ones of the series. Which is surprising considering Irek is a very serious character. He needed a lighthearted mate. I also loved that we have more characters to get more books for the future. I just finished Tia’s story and that one is also good, which also surprised me as she had a lot of growing up to do. But not to worry Ruby usually makes my least favorite characters and turns them into a good story.

So Great!!

I love the icehome series almost as much as the Barbarian series that is the prequel series to Ruby Dixon’s world of hardship and love between earth women and the aliens who love them.

Great series ending book

I love the fact that floor finally finally got her resonance mate. Who knew that her mate would have a great sense of humor and finally realize that Tia. Was not the perfect mate for her. I love the ending of this series. I can’t wait to start the clone one.

Solid ending

Solid ending to this section of the ice planet. I wish I understood more of Flor’s culture but I’m not sure if it just isn’t started where her superstitions come from or if I just missed it
