About this listen

A man goes home to bury his mother but finds himself.

Connor Norton returns to his hometown, following the death of his mother, knowing that he will have to confront personal feelings of guilt and regret. It is a place he has barely set foot in for the past 20 years.

Caught in the period of his life where the vibrancy of youth has diminished and the prospect of becoming middle-aged is looming, Connor finds that he is suddenly alone in the world and must, somehow, reshape his future and face his own mortality.

With only Tom, the family’s orange tabby cat, as his constant companion, he considers new possibilities and new directions. But will Connor be able to lay the ghosts of his past to rest? And will his return later, to the place he once called home, be enough to let him break free from the remorse which he has carried since he was 18?

In this tender, heartwarming portrait of a man who finds himself trapped between his past, his present, and the future, where will this new journey lead Connor and what will the future hold when he gets there?

Flowers in December is Emotional Healing

Flowers in December by Jane Suen
Narrated by Rich Miller
Four Stars

Flowers in December is a self enlightening story by Jane Suen. I have read three or four books by Ms. Suen, but I have to say I think this is my favorite so far. This story was personal for me having lost my mother this last year. This short story was beautifully written and very emotional. This book had me from the first page to the last. Conner Norton’s struggle with grief is prominent in this story as he returns to his hometown town for his mother’s funeral. After the funeral he stays to get his family affairs in order, which brings on self reflection. This book took me on an emotional roller coaster, I definitely needed my box of tissues. Conner’s strength of character made this story flow. I highly recommend this book.
This is the first book narrated by Rich Miller, but definitely won’t be the last. I really enjoyed his voice and he really brought the characters to life.

Flowers in Decemer by Amana DelFemine

Jane Suen did not miss a beat when it came to this story. Its a story of loss, life, and finding your way. It really made you relate to Connor on missed opportunities because life is too short. He held a grudge that he didnt know he had until it was confronted. Connor comes home after his mothers death to arrange a funeral and get everything squared away all the while he meets MaryAnn while picking out the flowers for the funeral. Its not until a few months later when time slips that he realizes hes alone in the world and noone to turn to.

I cant wait to get my hands on the next in the series.

Very Heartfelt, Emotional Read

This is the first book in the series. This audio book is just over two hours long. This story follows Connor as he travels back home to lay his mother to rest. Connor has barely been back to his hometown in over 20 years and he is not looking forward to it. He has so many feelings of regret that he has carried with him throughout his life since he left. Now he is all alone except for his cat, Tom. This was such a heartfelt story of a lonely man facing his past and wondering what his future holds.

Love this book

I’ve previously read this book from Suen and loved it so was very excited to get my ears on the audio version. The narrator did a fantastic job bringing this book to life and pulling the reader in. Very engaging and very moving. Here’s hoping the rest of the series will come to audio soon as well!

3 years after reading it..... and I still love it

I read Flowers in December back in 2018. Now listening to it and rereading my previous review, I can see how much I have grown. Back in 2018 I hadn't gone through the heartache of losing someone.
So today 3 years later I look at this story with new eyes and understanding. It really touched me on a whole new level.
Add to that the smooth calming tone of the narrator, this time around I really have a greater appreciation for the book.
Thank you for this.

Flowers in December

Flowers in December AUDIO BOOK by Jane Suen was such an emotional read. Having lost a family member recently I felt the thought process was very human and realistic. There are a lot of human moments and acceptance in the process. While it was a quick story there was a good plot, lots of details, and an emotional journey. I found the narrator's voice really soothing and the pacing well done.

Grief and life in a short story

What a poignant story. Follow the main character as he deals with grief and life after his mother's passing. Twist at the end gives you some interesting depth to the full story.

Great story...

Great story.... pulled at my heart strings. No doubt this story makes you think of the “what if’s” in life. The story was heart felt from a lonely man and trying to process his thoughts and grief. The voice of the narrator really pulled me in right from the beginning. The story was great and looking forward to continuing this series to see how Conner’s character evolves. 💜💜💜💜💜

awesome story

I loved listening to this entertaining audio. This is my first audio from this author. I loved being pulled into the story by the voice of the narrator. This is a great author who has chosen a great narrator for her story. I enjoyed the tone of voice and the voice changes throughout the story. This is a story about loss of a parent and loss of yourself. The characters are lovable, connectable and will pull you into their world. A story of a man who loses his mother and has returned home to realize that he has no one left in his life. He finds companionship in the cat that his mom left behind. Will this cat be the healing that he needs? Will he finally be free of the evils and be able to heal? I highly recommend this audio, it is truly worth the pick up
