About this listen

Is there a difference between first love and true love? Judy Blume's groundbreaking novel about teen sexuality has a fresh new audiobook treatment.

The bed is brass, covered with a patchwork quilt, and "nice and firm," Michael says, "in case you're interested."

Katherine is interested.

Katherine and Michael are in love, and Katherine knows it's forever - especially after she loses her virginity to him. But when they're separated for the summer, she begins to have feelings for another boy. What does this say about her love for Michael? And what does "forever" mean, anyway? Is this the love of a lifetime, or the very beginning of a lifetime of love?

Featured Article: On the Enduring Legacy of Judy Blume

Judy Blume's middle grade and young adult novels have helped raise generations of kids, reshaping the literary landscape for young listeners. Since the 1970s, Blume's writing has contributed to destigmatizing taboo topics like puberty, teen sexuality, masturbation, menstruation, bullying, disability, and more. And now, rather than her books being deemed outdated or no longer relevant to today's kids, we're experiencing a "Blume-aissance."

Very honest story

Enjoyed the open honesty, well written and read. Definitely takes you back to teen years and those tense emotional times.

Excellent story about one’s first sexual experience

It’s only dated in the use of the term “VD” for STI, and how lovers stay in touch while apart. No texting or video calling. But other than that it rings true. Unfriendly, I fear many girls and young women don’t fare as well: they are not as respected or able to have and maintain needed boundaries. But this book is an example of how to get both: respect and boundaries.

A Favorite

The story of Kathrine and Michael is an all time favorite of mine and deserves to be cherished by every generation . It has a little something in it for many different people and avenues we did not plan going down . I hope Forever helps many teenagers that have personal struggles as much as it helped me .

Great read as an adult! Have caution with teens...

Although this is young adult fiction, I think I would be a little uncomfortable with my teen reading parts of this. We are a somewhat conservative family. Some parts of the book are sexually explicit. As an adult, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I wish the audiobook had different voice actors for the different characters.

Great story… Important message

Excellent!! I really wish to submit around for me to read when I was a freshman in high school certainly by the time I was a sophomore. But that was many years before Judy Blume wrote the book. I will be giving a copy to my grandson in another year or two when he’s a sophomore in high school.

Things I wish I had known

I met Judy Blume just this month as an adult having grown up in the 60s and 70s and I never read anything like this. If I had, I may have gained a smidge more courage as an independent young woman. The courage came along, just as the right lessons came along for me. this book is essential and precious.

Realistic and truthful

It was an honest portrayal of teenage sexuality. It presented good information and showed both sexes as responsible and vulnerable. Not what I would recommend for middle school (even though children of that age are becoming more and more sexually aware) but appropriate for high school and if presented in the proper fashion a good vehicle to help late teens recognize and identify their own emotions and responsibilities.

Unban it

Absolutely wonderful. A great narration performed about a much needed thorough story of a common love story. I wanted more in the end, but we have all lived this and know how it ends. The excerpt at the end by the auther herself, explaining why she wrote it was excellent. The reason she did it, bravo.
