About this listen

From bestselling author, Rose Pressey, comes Forever Charmed, the first book in an all new series!

Halloween LaVeau is descended from a long line of witches. Yes, her name is Halloween. The cosmic universe is definitely playing some kind of sick joke on her. She's the ultimate witch cliche, complete with a black cat and spooky house. Thank heavens she's missing the warts and flying broom.

When Halloween inherits her great aunt's manor, she decides to put the house to good use as a bed and breakfast. Her first guest is the sinfully good-looking Nicolas Marcos, but he's not here for the continental breakfast. Halloween discovers a ratty old book in the attic. It's written in an unfamiliar language.

Halloween soon learns this is not an ordinary spellbook. The tome brings her a new talent, but her new skills come with a catch. When a rival witch comes after the book, Halloween doesn't know who to trust - the sexy vampire who says he wants to save the day, or the warlock who says he can destroy the book once and for all.

I enjoyed it.

I like the characters. I expected more in the confrontation of good vs evil. But, I'll be searching for the next book.

Haunted house

This book is cute. Cozy mystery about a girl named Halloween who inherits a huge house and turns it into a bed-and-breakfast. But it comes with its own set of surprises including cute guys, demons, and a crazy witch after her powers! Super fun read that ends in a definite there will be another book to the series ending.

Funny

Where does Forever Charmed rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of my favorites

What other book might you compare Forever Charmed to and why?

cross between Molly Harpers Halfmoon hollow series and Kristen Painters Nocturne Falls

Which scene was your favorite?

When Halloween used a spell to make herself look like Nicholas to see if she could get info from Liam.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I did listen to all of it in one day.

Any additional comments?

I have found a new series. I had added this to my kindle as a free book. I saw it had whispersync so i bought it. Glad i did. This story is about a witch named Halloween. Her magic is not all that great. She inherits a house(creepy house} from her great aunt. She decides to make it a bed and breakfast. While cleaning out the attic she finds a spell book but it is in a language she cannot read{except when it wants her too}, Later she is awaken in the middle of the night by a handsome man looking for a place to stay because he has car problems. (Nicholas). Then later on another handsome man shows up to stay at her bed and breakfast. (Liam) They seem to have some animosity towards each other but each claim they do not know each other. Each one warns her to not trust the other. Which one can she trust? Both or neither. Since she found the book her magic improves. What is this mysterious book? Sometimes a spell appears. Of course she has to try it. I recommend this book and i look forward to reading more

3.5 stars worth of fun.

As a first book in the series it was funny and holds promise for an entertaining series. Halloween Laveau promises to provide us with lots of laughs and a few cute men and the hope of a cute romance.

Cute but unstructured

I love fantasy novels and I was looking for a fun Halloween read. I thought it was cute that was her actual name so I gave it a try. I don’t know why everyone is tearing apart the narrator so much, I thought she was fine. She did super enunciate words but that didn’t bother me. I liked the southern flare all of the voices had though I felt that Liam and Nicholas were very hard to tell apart. My favorite voice and character was Isabeau.

I enjoyed this story and I’m glad I gave it a chance but it is way too long for such little action. It could have benefited from an outline and some serious editing. Although Annabelle was sweet, I personally felt like her character served no purpose and she hardly interacted with the more interesting characters. I think it would have been better to focus on Halloween’s mother, aunt and array of supernatural guests.

The world building is little to none. I know writers like to steer clear of data dumps but this story really could have used more information. All we know is that she is an unsuccessful witch/disappointment to her mother and she inherited the manor from her great aunt. We never get any more info about Aunt Maddie like how she died, how close she was to Hallie or how powerful she was in life. I don’t even think we get a physical description of Halloween or confirmation of her age.

It is unclear who or what the coven is exactly and how much mortals actually know about witches in this realm. We don’t get any characteristics of the vampire except for his fangs. Very little is revealed about the villain and Hallie seems to effortlessly thwart Mara with little explanation. Isabeau was the most interesting character but even her arc falls flat. We are not told the specifics of what a demon is in this world and it is unclear if Mara sent Isabeau’s ghost to the house or if she was there all along.

I am usually a sucker for romance but the love triangle seemed like it was written by a middle schooler. I was very intrigued when both strangers arrived but there is zero chemistry other than the fact that they’re both hot. She really doesn’t learn anything about either of them in this nine hour tale.

Overall, the premise is intriguing and this story def shows promise. There are some laughs and the atmosphere is def spooky, ideal for those looking for a Halloween read. I am not sure if I will continue this series but perhaps more details are revealed as it goes on.

Terrible narrator

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Saskia Maarleveld should never do another book!! Worst performance I have ever heard and have multiple audio books. Made it very hard to listen to this book! The story was a little bit more for teenagers then adults but was ok even if sometimes you want to say to the main character "come on!" If Rose Pressey continues this series, I might continue it if nothing else catches my interest as long as they get a different performer.
