About this listen

The gothic tale of Frankenstein and his construction of a human being who runs amok has, with the help of numerous films, become one of the most vivid horror stories. But Mary Shelley's original novel, written in 1816, dealt more sympathetically with "the daemon," showing how an initially beneficent creature is hammered into a daemon by the way he is treated. Her ideas, and her dramatic but poignant story, is brought to life in this sound dramatization.

The trouble with Frankenstein is that it just isn't a very good book. The myth of Frankenstein as portrayed at Halloween much better. As written by Shelly, however, it was disappointing, having not lived up to the hype. If you plan to listen to Frankenstein, however, then this performance is great.

Excellent Dramatization

Unlike most audiobook format, which use one voice actor or actress to portray all the characters of the story, this Naxos production three different actors to play the roles of Frankenstein, The daemon and Captain Walton, making this classic more believable in its presentation.
