Full slab of fun.

Full Slab Dead is the fourth book in the Josie Tucker mystery series, but it's the first one I've experienced, and I absolutely enjoyed the heck out of it. Josie is a food blogger who apparently gets into trouble wherever she goes. This time around Josie is accompanying her boyfriend to Austin, and while he is at a medical conference she checking out the local BBQ places for blog. It's during one of these stops that she learns about the wife of one of owners of one of the BBQ restaurants. She's been missing for years and presumed dead...and she's perhaps also haunting the restaurant or her old house, and of course Josie just has to nose around and see what's really going on. Enjoyable mystery with a great cast of characters. As I said this is the first book in the series I've experienced but it won't be the last.

This is the first book I've heard narrated by Kate Warner and I must say I was impressed. She really brought the characters and story to life and I look forward to hearing more of her work.

I received a copy of this audio title in exchange for an unbiased review.

A Ghost Story?

Narrator Kate Warner *is* Josie Tucker. Except, of course, when she's any one of a dozen other characters who populate this story. Ms Kaplan, the author, demonstrates her snarky sense of humor over and over again and I grinned my way through, unpeeling the layers of cover-up and misdirection. I've been reading various books in this series in no particular order and, while each stands alone, I do appreciate the little details I learn when an earlier tale provides clarification of an event referenced in passing. I suspect reading in order might have been useful but that's not how I stumbled across the first few. Like many amateur detectives (PI license notwithstanding) Josie's main weapons include doggedness and an ability to ferret out essentials and put the puzzle pieces together. Meanwhile I am left craving good barbecue!

Loved it!

I love discovering a new book series and a new author!

Josie Tucker is an awesome female lead who, led by her blogging efforts, gets her into a series of mishaps. This is the first book for me and I greatly enjoyed the listen. It was mostly a good stand-alone but there were some references to her past mishaps that were not fully explained. That did not deter from this mystery though; just rounded out the many interesting troubles Josie had found herself in.

This was my first Warner narrated book and I really enjoyed her performance. She's a definite do-again.

Full Slab of Fun Listening

Full Slab Dead: An Un-Cozy Un-Culinary Josie Tucker Mystery
: EM Kaplan

Josie Tucker goes to Austin, with her boyfriend as he attends a medical conference. She plans on checking out BBQ joints for her blog. As an armature PI she stumbles on a decades old missing person case. Will she be able to solve the case without getting hurt, killed or in trouble. The characters are larger than life and there are some laugh out loud moments. A fun cozy without recipes.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Kate Warner makes this a fun listen!

Mystery with a snarkfest!

snarky, amateur-sleuth, women-sleuths, mystery, texas

A fast, fun read with lots of humor, hilarious characters, and more. The publisher's blurb makes a great teaser without doing the whole recap thing.
Kate Warner is so right as perky, wisecracking Josie Tucker and company.

Full Slabs are AWESOME!

This is the first in the series I've listened to, and am a FAN!
What an entertaining ride that was! I had a blast.

Josie Tucker is a food critic/blogger, heading to Texas with her boyfriend to check out some BBQ joints while he attends a conference. She soon learns of a missing woman, and Josie and a set of crazy sidekicks go into full gear to solve the mystery. Lots of fun, and I look forward to listening to more from both author and narrator. Great job!

Warning! Texas BBQ Cravings Possible!

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This book delivers what it promises, an un-cozy Mystery that will leave you smiling. Josie, the blogger food-critic who loves to get involved in others business, especially when that business is surrounded by mystery, gets a good taste of Texas BBQ and devious family dramas. Of course she will solve the mystery at her own risk and peril and with the blessing of her faithful boyfriend (soon to be fiancée???), the doctor...Not having read the previous books in the series, I'm not sure what are the dynamics between Josie and her boyfriend. From the excuses she seems to find not to declare her intention to marry him throughout the narration, I'm not positive she is ready for that step, but there might be a reason for it not explained in this book. The narration is very pleasant and the writing clear and smooth. A perfect Summer read.
