About this listen

Karn's growing power could save his world—or tear it apart, as war looms and old alliances turn deadly.

After surviving his first year at The Forge, Karn returns to face new trials, both on the battlefield and within his own heart. As his power grows and his connection with Nix deepens, Karn struggles to control the rage that threatens to consume him. His relationship with Serah blossoms, but the path ahead forces them into difficult choices, with the looming conflict pulling them in opposite directions. Alongside new allies like the enigmatic Aspallan, Karn must navigate a web of treacherous alliances while facing dangerous new enemies—including those he once called friends.

With war on the horizon, secrets from his past resurface, testing Karn's loyalty, strength, and the bonds he's forged. As the final trials approach, Karn is forced to decide: will he master his fury, or let it destroy everything—and everyone—he cares about?

Romance trope and handicapped hero

while I enjoy listening to this title I feel this book suffers from that trope where the character falls super in love with another character and it's to the point where it's all they think about and their goals become second fiddle there's so many other ways to write romance. it doesn't always have to feature that oddly creepy, obsessed love. also, while I think the red eye thing was a good concept. I think it kind of holds back the writer from making this book more enjoyable and makes the MC bland. I read a lot of books in this genre and this MC is definitely not making my top 10 but here's hoping that in the next two books he gains something that makes him stand out.
