Publisher's summary

As Adolph Hitler rose to power in 1930s Germany, a growing wave of fascism began to take root on American soil. Nazi activists started to gather in major American cities, and by 1933, there were more than one hundred anti-Semitic groups operating openly in the United States. Few Americans dared to speak out or fight back—until an organized resistance of notorious mobsters waged their own personal war against the Nazis in their midst. Gangland-style . . .

In this thrilling blow-by-blow account, acclaimed crime writer Michael Benson uncovers the shocking truth about the insidious rise of Nazism in America—and the Jewish mobsters who stomped it out.

Packed with surprising, little-known facts, graphic details, and unforgettable personalities, Gangsters vs. Nazis chronicles the mob's most ruthless tactics in taking down fascism-inspiring ordinary Americans to join them in their fight. The book culminates in one of the most infamous events of the pre-war era-the 1939 Nazi rally in Madison Square Garden—in which law-abiding citizens stood alongside hardened criminals to fight for the soul of a nation. This is the story of the mob that's rarely told—and one of the most fascinating chapters in American history. And American organized crime.

Great Account of Nazi History Unknown To Many Americans

Well-told story of how gangsters took on Nazi infiltration into America before the U.S. entered WWII. You will be surprised how Nazis had infiltrated our neighborhoods.

The commitment and respect for the religion of the people and the USA.

A plus! Really shaped the next generation and openness that is required to gain a foothold even as a Jewish.

Maybe violence is the answer

If you stories about Nazis getting beaten up then you’ll love this. Also for fans of mobsters.

Surprising Nazi fighters in the US

Interesting history we never really knew. The narration a bit like Gang Busters on radio.

Excellent and inspiring stories

The stories themselves nearly speak for themselves and are told in an entering fashion. Well written and truthful.

Amazing History

I completely enjoyed the story! The "gangsters" definitely stood up, spoke up, and defended themselves.

Clear, entertaining, fascinating

This was a great listen, I drive for a living and didn’t find myself losing focus or or missing any of it like I do some other history books.

Shocking

To summarize, this book gleefully celebrates corrupt politicians, dirty cops, rapists, murderers, mobsters of all types, journalists, federal agencies, NGO's, and religious leaders coming together to facilitate a reign of terror against people who said things they didn't like. The author even goes out of his way to jovially talk about the starvation deaths of prisoners within Soviet concentration camps. It's honestly one of the most disgusting things I've ever read. By the end, I found myself wholeheartedly siding with the German American Bund(I can't believe I'm even saying that).

I gave it 5 stars because I think this book has a lot of valuable information in it that is just as applicable today as it was 100 years ago. Why do certain 'activist' groups have the ability to terrorize the population while the authorities and media turn blind eyes? How are certain NGO's powerful enough to force their will on entire sectors of the economy? Why does it seem that some people can change anything about the world simply by complaining while others cannot change anything no matter how much they try to manifest their political will? Why does it seem like every high profile bad guy has deep ties to people in government? This book explains the answers very clearly.

I would suggest this book be read by everyone. It shows a glimpse into the sausage factory that is American Democracy and makes one ask very serious questions about one's long-held beliefs and values.

Little Known Chapter of Late-1930s America

This is a very entertaining history of pre-WW II America. I had heard about Luciano's contribution to the fight against Mussolini's fascist in Italy, but I had not heard of the Jewish racketeers struggle against the Nazi sympathizers. There may be a bit of larger than life exploits in the telling, but over all a really good listen
