Publisher's summary
The son of Sicilian immigrants, Camillo Carmine Galante was raised in Manhattan's Little Italy and by all accounts born bad. By fifteen he was terrorizing the streets of New York's Lower East Side, scoring high marks for the "errands" he was running for his La Cosa Nostra elders. When he turned twenty, Galante was already one of the mob's top enforcers-a sadistic thrill killer and clinically diagnosed psychopath with big dreams: whack his way into controlling organized crime the world over, vowing to kill Mafia chieftans Tommy Lucchese and Carlo Gambino and take control of their mob families.
Carmine "Lilo" Galante's rise to Mafia star was infamous: hit man for the Luciano and Genovese crime families; named consigliere by Joseph Bonnano; he wiped out eight members of the Gambinos; on behalf of Mussolini he assassinated the publisher of an anti-Fascist newspaper. Galante helped orchestrate one of the largest heroin trafficking operations on record-a power move too dangerous for his rivals in the narcotics trade. The heads of the five New York families decided that the psychotic Galante had to be stopped. On July 12, 1979, finishing his lunch in a Brooklyn restaurant, Galante got what he'd dished out his whole life: a shotgun blast to the face, his trademark cigar still clenched in his teeth . . .

He became the boss of the Gambino Crime Family in spectacular fashion—with the brazen and very public murder of Paul Castellano in front of Sparks Steakhouse in midtown Manhattan in 1985. Not one to stay below law enforcement’s radar, Gotti instead became the first celebrity crime boss. His penchant for eye-catching apparel earned him the nickname “The Dapper Don;” his ability to beat criminal charges led to another: “The Teflon Don.”

Not one to stay below law enforcement’s radar, Gotti instead became the first celebrity crime boss. Story
One of the most feared Chicago mobsters, Sam Giancana, clawed his way to the top of the Mafia hierarchy by starting as a hit man for Al Capone. He was known as one of the best vehicle escape artists, a tenacious business man, and a ruthless killer. He partied with major stars such as Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe and did business with agents ranging from the CIA to the Vatican to the shah of Iran. When politician Joe Kennedy gave Giancana the chance to use mob muscle to get his son John elected, Giancana jumped at the task.

Lived in that area it's a crazy lifestyle like in Goodfellows, you spotted those guys with the silk suits, Ferrari's and Lambos.

Great Listen!
A great listen into the life of crime that Carmine Galante. Most information is already known but it was all there and put together well. Author did great at highlighting how unlike galante was among his peers. Long live La Cosa Nostra!

Great story
The story line is well written, with credible facts. The narrator is one of the best crime book narrators. One of the better mob book on Audible. 5 out of 5

Nothing new, a Lifetime TV Crime Novel
This was maybe the most boring account of a mob tale I've ever read.
Absolutely nothing new, sounded like a very long book report or an AI generated novel. The Reader? Author? kept going back as if the person listening, might have fallen asleep while listing and needed to be brought up to speed again and again.
Felt like a tale told by someone who culled through many, many, newspaper articles and came up with an idea for a book.
Finally, the narrator should have been required to drink an expresso before beginning each "chapter."
They started out very slowly and then dribbled out altogether, sort of like literary ketchup.

Lazy Attempt; Awful Narrator
The story is pretty thin, not sure that there is any way around that with mob stories without inside information. The narrator is nasally and has an affect that makes him really tough to listen to. Skip it.
