Publisher's summary

Though his body is healed, a modern-day vet in medieval Scotland must find a way to mend his heart.

Though Gavin McShane is happy for his sister and her new life, his own has foundered. As he tries to recover from his lover’s betrayal, he finds solace in the work of being a fisherman in the Orkneys. On his tiny island he finds relief in seclusion - until he meets the ghostly Blue Lady of Marr.

Young druidess Catriona Haral is no phantom. But her hidden existence has made her seem so, even to herself. When Gavin wanders into her secret glen, she wonders if she’s found a reason to want to live again.

But Catriona wasn’t hiding on a whim. When her reasons are revealed, the might of the McDonnel clan and the judgement of the druids land at her doorstep.

Loved it

Gavin is from the twenty-first century he had been dieing when a viking goddess brought him and his twin sister back in time to fourteenth century Scotland healed and with gifts.
Catriona is a druid who lost all her family and tribe on the island called everbay. Every year she comes back to look after the animals and morn the loss. This time she finds Gavin building a home on the island.
Oh wow amazing twists and turns to this story all the way to the end! Great characters, mystery, danger, action, drama, hot scotts, time travel and vampires you count not ask for more. This is a must read and should be turned into a TV show or movie but more then likely they wouldn't do it justice lol

Powerful, magical storytelling...not to be missed

Gavin McShane’s body was betraying him…he had ALS and time was not on his side, that is, until he fell 12 centuries back in time! That’s when he began to rebuild his life, first by working on a medieval fishing boat, and then by building a home on a remote, uninhabited island.

Catriona Haral also survived a great loss and betrayal. Now she spends her summers on the island, tending former homes, planting flowers and herbs, and taking care of the animals. It is a sacred, protected place until “he” arrives. She watches him…under the cover of darkness. As she watched, she began to wonder if he had hidden power, perhaps druid kind, like her.

Just about the time you think these two lost souls will find a measure of peace; you learn the Ninth Legion is plotting another invasion. And, all the while evil is moving toward them.

I loved Catorina and Gavin. Their stories and their struggles touched my heart and I suddenly found myself filled with love for these two beautiful, damaged souls who have suffered and lost so much.

The characters are endearing, the story is mesmorizing and the ending is stunning. When I read the book, I was deeply moved by this story and the endearing characters. I thought it couldn't get any better, but that was before l listened to the Audible version! Suddenly, it was as if a whole new story appeared. The addition of a skilled "reader" took it to an entirely different level. Once again, Hazel Hunter’s exquisite writing skills were elevated with the assistance of William MacCloud’s narration. This pair weaves some powerful and magical storytelling skills! Don't miss this five star Audible version. Wish I could give it ten stars - it was totally worth it!

Gavin is an absolute gem!

If you love time travel, strong characters, with a decadently lush nuanced story line, this book checks all the boxes. The series has been a delight to listen to, and Gavin ended the series on a high note. The narration enriched the drama and emotion of Gavin and Cat's tale. I look forward to revisiting the whole series at a later date, as I love to listen to series back to back.

It took me until 3:30 AM to finish this!

I didn't finish this until 3:30 AM because I kept listening to just one more chapter. My recommendation is to start earlier and I will the next time I listen to a Hazel Hunter book. I loved the story of course (I read the book when it first came out) but hearing it come to life, yummy. Gavin is the fifth book in the series and I think it needs at least the previous book to understand this story. In any event, all the other books are worth reading and we meet all the characters again at the end of this so we see how things are going. Gavin was introduced as a secondary character in Book 4 and this is his story.

Gavin was dying in the present and when he falls through time with his sister, he is immediately healed and he's extremely grateful to be restored. The overall story arc is closed in this story and ties up all the threads nicely.

William Macleod really brings the story to life. Smooth, easy to understand and the accent was just right. Immerse yourself in the story--it's well worth the time, just start earlier than I did because you'll become engrossed and not want to miss any or stop it. Highly recommended.

A Great Series

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author and found it very entertaining. Immortals battling vampires with the help of time travelers, who could ask for more. The characters are unique and the plot is fast paced and suspenseful. It's a perfect blend of action, magic, humor and love. This series is very enjoyable, and I'm hoping it continues on for a long time.

Enjoyed the tale of time travel

Narrator William Macleod does a beautiful job on each man he developed a voice for and the pillow talk is hot.......but the voices he did for the woman were terrible, unless it was a Scottish older woman.
I listened to all 5 books in the series ,I enjoyed the tale.
I hope there is a book 6 but please add a woman narrator to Mr. Macleod's many different Scottish male character voices.

Gavin

Whilst Gavin may not be an immortal he is the twin brother of Tormod’s wife, and is still of Druid kind. He hide from the highlanders using his talent of camouflage to hide at the end of the last book. 12 months on he’s happy being a fisherman in the Orkney’s and is building his home on the island of Marr where there are tales that the island is cursed and a lady in blue haunts the place.
Catriona is the second to last surviving member of her Druid clan the only other is her Uncle. She spends time on the Island Everbay but also lives permanently elsewhere.
This story gets very interesting when fates play a strange hand with Gavin and Catriona when get together because they both know each other from a different time and place but just don’t know it. It is also the story rounds out this series with some amazing answers. I’ve loved everyone of these books and look forward to more from Ms Hunter.
