About this listen

Matt Tompkins, a reserved gay man, has always played by the rules and has created a comfortable but unfulfilling life for himself. When his bold best friend, Greg, reaps unexpected rewards for standing up for himself in public, Matt's jealousy leads him to risk everything when he's confronted by two attackers. Determined to be more like Greg, a split-second reaction brings astonishing changes to Matt's life - for better and for worse.

Set in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood, Gaybash explores the boundaries of love and friendship and the unintended consequences of wanting to be somebody else.

Excellent Read!

I loved reading Gaybash! The story touched on many themes we encounter in life. The story reiterates that many times in life we may not be able to control what happens but we do control how we react, feel and how to deal with those events. I recommend this book to anyone who has ever felt subjugated, made fun of or harassed just for being different. This story shows that we have the power inside each of us to triumph over any adversity.

Great Read on Gay Life in Chicago!

Being from Chicago, this story took me to a hole knee level as I knew every place and type of person in the story. The storyline was very well thought out and shows the not so glamorous side of fat life and the stupidity of things like social media.

Tell me about Chicago's Boystown!!

I liked being brought in to someone's way life without it being over cliche or overly sexual!! The writing helped me to see The characters as they interacted with each other. I felt empathy and pride for the two main characters!! Can't wait to read book 2 and Summerdale!! It they are as good as Gaybash 1 David Jay Collins is on his way!!

Well done David!

I’m just taken! I got transported to Chicago and felt like I was there with Matty each time I hit play. I could not put it down! You pay attention to detail when you write, and it brings everything to life.
I’ve never been in a situation where I was picked on or bullied, but I relate to not fitting in with circles around me. I definitely felt Matt's pain through your style of writing, and, even more amazing, I could feel the pain and emotions of everyone around Matt.
This book is written to grab a huge audience, and that’s a great skill. I feel you don’t have to be gay to relate to this novel; so many people are bullied and so many people feel like they don’t fit in. Even parents can take something out of this and maybe learn to handle acceptance and crisis with a more open mind.

I already have 4 readers at work curious about getting your book.

I’m excited about your next one.
Well done David, and thank you!

An intense story, full of emotion.

Even though I knew what to expect based on the title, I was unprepared to be gripped with such emotion throughout. The friendships and expressions of love are genuinely touching. The pain and fear are raw and real. My heart has never ached so much for a character before, but I could relate to Matt so well. My eyes filled with tears many times. As for Greg, as perfect and flawed as he was, I would have loved him, too. I never wanted this story to end and I hope DJC writes another one quickly... maybe with a happier tone! However, I will read whatever he produces. I will recommend this book to everyone.
