About this listen

The new novel set within the action of the Xbox Game Studios video game Gears 5, by New York Times best-selling author Jason Hough

Tied into the record-breaking Xbox Game Studios video game Gears 5, Gears of War: Bloodlines reveals a mission that takes place within the events of the game.

Stinging from a defeat by the Swarm and the grievous injury of her best friend, JD Fenix, Kait Diaz finds herself forced to choose between following her mother’s Outsider ways, or her duty as a Coalition of Ordered Governments soldier like her father, Gabe Diaz: hero of the upcoming Xbox Game Studios video game Gears Tactics.

As Kait learns of Gabe’s choices during the Battle of Gatka Ridge, the brutal mission that defined his Pendulum Wars legacy, she discovers how his actions shaped her future - and prepared her for war against the Swarm.

Enjoyable listen

I really need to get caught back up on the games since these books fill in the between games storyline. That said I thought the book was enjoyable, especially Diaz's back story

Family Ties

The basic knowledge you get from this is more surroundings Kaits father which sort of takes the majority of the book sadly. It should have done more present to past like books before this.

Struggling to finish.

I love the Gears franchise. I'll gladly even take bad Gears over no Gears but this book , even more the the previous, is very hard to get through because of the narration. Nothing against Nan McNamara I just don't think this is in her wheelhouse. The characters voices are very distracting.

Better, but still lacking

Better than his last attempt at a Gears novel, but still nowhere near the level of Karen Travis.

Great Story and Read... What's best though?

Great performance, and liked that they gave us more back story. Curious how or if they'll do any more books after forcing you to make such a heavy decision in game. Hope they realize the corner they painted these novels into, and hope for more to come.

Not bad

This was not a bad book. The problem with the current series is that it doesn’t live up to the older standards. The love is just not there and you can tell.

great expansion to the series

i enjoyed the book a lot, the only thing that seemed off in the whole book was how Cole was written. his trademark attitude seemed off, most often he would swear instead of being as happy go lucky as I'm used to

new narrator

it was very jarring to go from the previous narrator who was male to a female narrator. additionally with the time jump I found it difficult to really start this book and picked it up and put it down several times before I even got quarter-way through. by the end of it, I got used to the new narration and this time skip so I ultimately enjoyed it. Also had to find some bootleg narrations for the previous two books that are not available seemingly anywhere for sale.
