Editorial reviews

Georgie is a ghost in search of a new house to haunt. Sadly, all the homes in Georgie’s neighborhood already have ghosts, leaving poor Georgie nowhere to go. Only Mr. Gloams’ house is without a ghost - but it’s a little too gloomy, and Mr. Gloams is a little too creepy for this friendly ghost. Luckily, Georgie’s family is waiting for him with open arms.

Performer Owen Jordan’s warmhearted rendering of Georgie is restored from a 1968 recording. Sure to capture the ears of young listeners, Jordan’s soft, spry baritone is lively and melodious as he breathes life into this classic tale of family, home, and happiness.

I had my mom purchased this book and this record for me back in 1965, in first grade. A wonderful story that never grows old, and fun to listen to when you get old.

Wonderful kids book.

Shy and gentle Georgie is a beloved ghost of many an American childhood. Even though he's small and timid, he proves to have an important place in his family. He went on to star in a total of 13 books during his author's lifetime.

Good picture books rely on the illustrations at least as much as the text to carry the story, so adapting them to an audio-only format presents challenges. The pictures which flesh out the text and the characters' personalities and the relationships between them are missing. In this audiobook, sound effects and music accompany the reading and partially compensate for the missing pictures.

This recording is well done and would be lovely paired with a copy of the book, but the book is currently out of print. For the youngest children, see if you can find a copy of the printed book at your library. For those familiar with the pictures, listening to this brings back nice memories.
