About this listen

#1 Bestselling Series

Something wicked his way comes...

LAPD detective Michael Gideon and his German shepherd K-9 partner, Sirius, walked through fire to catch an infamous serial killer, and Gideon is still paying the price with his PTSD fire dreams. To assist the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit, Gideon has agreed to monthly prison visits with Ellis Haines, a.k.a. the Weatherman. This time, a homicide case the FBI wants Haines to analyze sparks a chilling discovery: A new serial killer has struck, and he's lacing his crime scenes with hidden messages intended for Haines.

Haines isn't the only killer whose twisted game Gideon must try to break up. A missing man's love poems are delivered to his fiancée with the message: So sorry for your loss. And when a sweet pit bull named Emily is rescued after being left for dead, Gideon and Sirius pull out all the stops to try and bring down the dogfighting ring that abused her.

Loved the books

Have read three Gideon and Sirius books and loved them. This is the first audio book. The narrator is irritating beyond belief. Back to print!

Another book please!

When this book ended, I was actually upset the 5th book of the series was not out yet. I was so engrossed, I was ready for more. I don't typically read series and when I do, I usually only read past the 4th book out of obligation to finish the series, and not because I actually want the series to keep going. I find that the longer a series goes on, the less engaging the story becomes.

That is simply not true with Gideon and Sirius. I WANT MORE!

The addition of another dog with a bold personality drew me even deeper into the series. And the resurgence of the sidelined sociopath left me eager for this one to continue.

Best kept secret

Alan Russell is the best writer and I've listen to hundreds of narrators and Jeff Cummings is my favorite. The two together make for the perfect situation. I pray the Gideon and Sirius novels continue for a long time. Gideon's Rescue might be Alan Rusell's best story yet. Everything just flows so well and you can tell Alan Russell did a lot of homework and put in a lot of time to make this a perfect story. The bonus is if you respect the police and love pets you really see that come out in this book. Very enjoyable read. I can't recommend this enough. Exceptional book, exceptional audiobook.

Can't wait for the next Gideon & Sirius

Alan Russell has developed his characters (2 legged & 4 legged) beautifully and set them in great a great series of books. Jeff Cummings does an excellent job of bringing the story and characters to life.
Alan's passion for dogs and rescue fit perfectly into the series; so much so, that I sent the entire series on MP3 CDs to the Director of the Southwest Pennsylvania Retriever Rescue Organization (SPARRO) for his enjoyment.
Please keep writing more in the series!

not the best, but not horrible

Love the series, but this story was a little bit strange (or both stories I guess).

Guess I'm used to Jeff Cummings' "Grocho Marx" narration style, but wish it could be toned down a bit.

Still a fan, just honest feedback.

This modern detective series keeps getting better!

In book 4 of this series Detective Gideon and German shepherd police dog Sirius continue to deal with their PTSD nightmares they suffer as the result of a fire from an earlier book in the series. They also adopt Emily who is a dog severely injured by a dog fighting operation. Gideon deals with three cases: a dog fighting ring, a missing and presumed dead immigrant from Mexico, and a series of mysterious murders that is seemingly related to poker hands and death row inmate Ellis Haines. The first two cases are resolved but the poker murder case is not, resulting in a cliffhanger.

I recommend the Gideon and Sirius series be read in order written. This modern detective series has wonderful characters that grab your heart along with great plot lines. Narrator Jeff Cummings is outstanding as the first person voice of Michael Gideon.

Gideon Rescued the hurt dog

The only this I dislike about this book is Gideon going to the prison to see the weatherman. He is so awful and snarky. I like the way the book moves and the direction he’s going in.
