Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

First of all, this book is wonderful! One of my favorites. So much so that I have the paperback, the kindle edition, and the Audible edition. So why the 3 stars?

The narration is perfectly awful. Is the reader actually a native English speaker? There are so many mispronounced words that it detracts from the overall story. In some cases, it's just incorrect pronunciation, but other words have the accent on the wrong syllable For example...

Potomac is pronounced PaTAYmic.
Midshipman is pronounced MidshipMAN
Coup is pronounced coop (as in chicken coop)

The diction is slow - VERY SLOW - and forced, with bizarre pauses where they don't belong - like during prepositional phrases.

Such a disappointing performance for such a terrific novel.

What other book might you compare Girls No More to and why?

Virgins, also by the same author, is wonderful as well.

What didn’t you like about Dara Rosenberg’s performance?

It's forced, awful, and WAY too many mispronounced words. Seriously, a novel set in Washington DC and the narrator can't pronounce "Potomac" correctly?

Did Girls No More inspire you to do anything?

Be myself, even if it annoys people.

Buy it for the novel, NOT the narration!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A better narrator - The story isn't half bad but the narrator kills it.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Her over the top expression often made you think it was all suppose to be sarcastic, and if that is what the author was intending then I don't think I can handle that much sarcasm. Since the setting is a real place - Washington DC and it's sounding suburbs you would think that the narrator could find out how people in this area pronounce things - but no they just get slaughtered.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I enjoyed the fact that the book is set in Washington DC as well as a time period when I lived in the DC area all helping to make it seem more real. The story line was also a plus for the book .

Any additional comments?

Probably will never by another book narrated by this individual

Narration drips with ?????

I read this book series when I was a teenager (back then the title was Girls Forever Brave and True), so I was excited to find it on Audible. The narrator drove me crazy with her mispronunciations though! She ruined my enjoyment of the story. ☹️

Loved the book, but the narration was poor

It’s a good story; a sequel to “Virgins”, the author’s novel of growing up Catholic in the 1950s-60s. But the narrator’s mispronunciations and tone-deaf readings spoil it.

Need a different narrator!
