Some secrets should stay buried.
Ghost hunter Verity Long is no stranger to scandal. In fact, it seems to follow her around like her pet skunk, Lucy. But Verity is as shocked as anybody when a town relic discovered in a time capsule unleashes a torrent of secrets that lead to murder.
Trouble is, the only residents in Sugarland who know the truth behind the scandal also happen to be very dead themselves. With a killer on the loose and a town in crisis, Verity braves a side of Sugarland she's never seen before. From a booby-trapped haunted mansion to a run-in with the spirit of Sugarland's most notorious blackmailer who may hold the key to setting mob ghost Frankie free...for a price.
But when a live killer gets an inside track on Verity's investigation, will she live long enough to give up the ghost?

Another great read in this series and a much-needed getaway from reality with lots of laughs!
Even if you've never met Verity, Frankie the gangster ghost, local law Ellis and his horrid mother, you've still got to enjoy this! Ellis's mother calls him to a murder scene and looks guilty as sin. That starts a sequence of events originally caused by a blackmailing hairdresser, continued by her daughter who is the murder victim now. Lots of fallout on all this! Meanwhile back at Verity's home, Frankie has brought home a ghostly racehorse (and other farm animals) because he is bored. Let the madness begin!
Not an unbiased review because I absolutely love the real star of this series--Lucille Desiree Long AKA Lucy, Verity's pet skunk!
I'm not sure about stand-alone quality since I am addicted to this series, but I think that it should do.
I requested and received a free e-book copy from Moose Island Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

I was so annoyed with Ellis. How is he such a doormat and a pushover when it comes to his mother? It got kind of pathetic. I usually like him and I like him and Verity together but in this book he was ridiculous.
Another thing that put me off was just how much Duranja dislikes Verity. He is in a relationship with Verity’s sister, Melody, and he is friends with Ellis. The fact that he goes out of his way to show how much he doesn’t like Verity and is always trying to find any excuse to arrest her, doesn’t work. It’s over the top.
I really liked all of the stuff with Frankie and the progress with working toward one day ungrounding him from Verity’s house. Lucy, the skunk, was awesome, as always! The ending of this book was great. Seeing Verity’s home come back together was nice.
The narration was great. I love Tavia’s voices in this series and she does such a wonderful job bringing the story and characters to life.
I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I can’t get enough of these books. I am giving this book 3.5 stars overall.
