About this listen

Packed with intrigue and danger, Jan Burke's Irene Kelly mysteries thrill her many avid fans.

The morning after Irene says goodnight to her old journalist friend O'Connor, he is killed suddenly upon opening a letter bomb. As the smoke clears, a devastated Irene determines to find the mail-bomber by tracing threads of an unsolved crime from 1955 - the same cold case O'Connor had been obsessed with.

I liked this story and I will try more from Jan Burke, but it was very perdictable. I knew "who done it" way to soon in the story. I actually found this book by looking up Eliza Foss after I listened to her narration of the Mermaid Chair. She has a voice you can just sit back and enjoy. I will definately give another Irene Kelly Novel a listen to. This was number one so I think they will only get better and they don't have far to go I really did enjoy this book.

I’m going to finish all of this series. I did read the last two books even though I bought the hardbacks years ago

Great Book!

I've been waiting years for Jan Burke's books to be released on audio. A wonderful surprise and I wasn't disapointed. Goodnight Irene on audio was as good as the read. The reader is introduced to Irene Kelly, newspaper reporter, and supporting characters including her detective husband to be, Frank. The locale is a southern California beach town. The pace of Goodnight Irene sometimes slows, but as the series goes on, the books only get tighter and faster paced. The narrator is good, could turn into a favorite of mine. If you've never read Jan Burke, give Goodnight Irene a try. Well worth the credit spent and the time listening.

I like. a good mystery with likeable characters and this one delivers. My biggest problem was the narrator. in the sample clip I thought it was going to be okay but knew after about the first ten minutes that this was going to take some getting use to.
The voice work wasn't bad, just bland. I felt like Eliza Foss wasn't putting a lot of emotion into anything that was said, especially with the main character, Irene. Happy, sad, angry, the tone was the same.
I might give the next book a shot, because I'm hoping that the narration might evolve a bit.

Good story, so so narrator

I listen to this series about once every 12-15 months just to give myself enough time to miss it and forget who the bad guys are. it's so well written, interesting and the narrator is phenomenal. 100% recommend!

this series is my all time favorite

I couldn't listen to more than couple chapters. the narration was wrong for me. not much emotion in anything, and her cadence was bizarre. I've read some the books, actually read them, and really enjoyed them. I'm disappointed that the entire series is narrated by this lady.

narrator is difficult to listen to
