About this listen

Jonas Piedmont Beaumont has had a hard life and learned at a young age how hard life can be. Two marriages, a treacherous battle with the bottle, assorted midlife and moral dilemmas, and a few decades as a homicide detective haven't convinced him otherwise. When Beau and his new partner Sue Danielson are assigned the murder of an elderly woman torched to death in her bed, Beau finds himself distracted by Sue's difficulties at home. Distraction turns to terror as Sue and Beau find themselves caught up in a series of events that will leave them and their carefully constructed investigation shattered.©1999 J.A. Enjoyable story line despite being sad and wrenching. Good mix of action and character development

Good story

Change in reader from Gene Engene is a bummer. Story is great as usual from JA Jance.

Story is excellent

Very short with nothing solved! I wish I hadn’t use my audible credit for this.

A scam

First, Richard Cox is no Gene Engene. His horrific pronunciation of Washington's landmarks is so distracting that I couldn't forgive his lackluster "performance" of the JP Beaumont I have come to know throughout this wonderfully-written series. I couldn't even tell what he was saying half the time. Perhaps the reader should be a native Washingtonian? Really, if I had heard CHEE-lan one more time as opposed to SHUH-lan, I might have screamed. Next, the story is completely gutted for this abbreviated version with little care given to maintaining continuity when most of the story was eliminated. DO NOT BOTHER WITH THIS ONE. Instead, select Breach of Duty read by Gene Engene; a satisfying listen.

Richard Cox did a positively HORRIBLE job narrating this novel. He sounded as if he was sleep walking through this. So terribly disappointed in this experience.

Absolutely Terrible Narrator

I gave 5 stars for performance, but didn't like the narrator. Voice didn't seem hard enough for what Beau had been through. Had the audio book for a while before I finished it. If it hadn't been a Beaumont book,I wouldn't have listened to it.

Not up to par with others
