About this listen

The New York Times best-selling author of Blackberry Winter imagines the inspiration for Goodnight Moon.

Goodnight Moon is an adored childhood classic, but its real origins are lost to history. In Goodnight June, Sarah Jio offers a suspenseful and heartfelt take on how the "great green room" might have come to be.

June Andersen is professionally successful, but her personal life is marred by unhappiness. Unexpectedly, she is called to settle her great-aunt Ruby's estate and determine the fate of Bluebird Books, the children's bookstore Ruby founded in the 1940s. Amid the store's papers, June stumbles upon letters between her great-aunt and the late Margaret Wise Brown - and steps into the pages of American literature.

A mix of emotions

I began the story hating the main character June. she was fairly unlikable but as the story progresses she changes. some aspects, I found a little odd or predictable. Some aspects of story made me tear up or be surprised. Sarah Jio usually delivers a great story. The narrator was way too old-sounding for most of the voices and not very much like a 30 year old. I found it bothersome. She did a pretty good job reading with proper inflection but just didn't sound like any 30-something I know.

pleasant but predictable

enjoyed the storyline and themes. found the plot awfully predictable. sometimes predictable is good therapy so if that is what you need, this is good option.

This was an enjoyable, sweet story. But....

Love the writing and the storyline, but the narrator was all wrong for the book. She sounded more of the age of 75 versus 35.

Sweet Story!!

Goodnight June was a nice, light novel that I enjoyed in between some more serious books recently.

Mixed in to the story are letters (fictional) between June's aunt and Margaret Wise Brown, the author of Goodnight Moon, the beloved children's book. That gave the story an interesting twist, and the book it's title. I also liked the narrator--she does an excellent job!

Overall, I enjoyed, and recommend for a sweet, easy listen.

Great audiobook!

Great story overall, characters are realistic and attaching. I was a little less enthusiastic about the reader, whose voice was, in my personal opinion a little too old for the main character. I didn't let that bother me though and went through the whole audio with great pleasure.

Excellent story!

A beautifully written story with interesting characters, and perfectly performed by the late Katherine Kellgren. I enjoyed hearing her familiar voices, she was one of the best.
The story seems so real (and touching), that I’m going to do a little research to find out!
