About this listen

Dear Anna, What I have to tell you is difficult to write, but I know it will be far more difficult for you to hear, and I'm so sorry.

The unfinished letter is the only clue Tara and Emerson have to the reason behind their close friend Noelle's suicide. Everything they knew about Noelle - her calling as a midwife, her passion for causes, her love for her friends and family - described a woman who embraced life. Yet there was so much they didn't know.

With the discovery of the letter and its heartbreaking secret, Noelle's friends begin to uncover the truth about this complex woman who touched each of their lives - and the life of a desperate stranger - with love and betrayal, compassion and deceit.

Very intense, very intertaining

I enjoyed this story, but wanted (and needed) more from the ending, Characters were well developed and well-connected into the story.

Good Book

This was a very good read. I personally found it very hard to put down. I am going to recommend it to my book club as our next read.

Chamberlain never disappoints

I loved this book and was sorry to finish it, as I wanted these characters to stay with me much longer. My only issue is with one of the narrators. I don’t know which one used the very high voice but it was quite irritating. Others were great, however.

Great story, horrible readers

It was really hard to get into simply because the readers sounded like Microsoft Sam and Microsoft Samantha.

Fascinating, suspenseful and well told

A very interesting and unusual mystery full of rich characterization and strong, believable emotions. As complex and confusing as real life.

Interesting and relatable characters.

The story was interesting but a bit far-fetched. Too many unrealistic connections and circumstances.
Did not enjoy the narrator for Tara. The others were great.

Distracting narrators good story

The narration is distracting, especially Noelles character. Her cadence is unnerving. The young girls voices and Noelles voice are particularly

Kept my attention but left me unsatisfied

3.75 stars

There are multiple readers for the audio version of this book. All did a great job except the voice of the midwife. UHG! If she would have been the only reader, I wouldn't have finished listening.

This was an interesting story with lots of little mysteries. It kept my attention and I enjoyed it.
But, in the end, there were too many unanswered questions and I was left feeling unsatisfied.
