Editorial reviews

R. L. Stine, affectionately known as the "Stephen King of children’s literature", extends his Goosebumps series with this short audiobook for kids, subtitled "Who’s Your Mummy?" The audiobook is performed by Ashley Albert, lead singer of the kids’ rock band The Jimmies, and the voice of Nickelodeon itself. Albert’s ever-lively performance and a smattering of sound effects should keep the young listener interested.

In this installment, young Abby and Peter go to stay with Uncle Jonathan, whose mansion is creepily themed after ancient Egypt. Amulets and obelisks are bad enough...but does Uncle Jonathan really have to keep mummies in his house? Abby, Peter, and the listener are bound for some goose bumps.

I listened to the audible audiobook. I like the sound effects, but I'm not a fan of the music. I liked the narrator and how she gets into character. uncle john's accent and the children's voices come to mind. She uses nice effects for the mummy moans.

The kids are excited to visit their uncle johnathan while grandma visits the hospital. When they arrive, they find it's a little more creepy than they expected. I enjoyed the story like I do with many goosebumps, but I was hoping for mummies to attack.

Not enough mummies

Since the start of the series this is the best one yet. I completely enjoyed it from the beginning to the end.

The "background music" was so loud it overpowered the narrator. Who wants music in an audiobook, anyway? Either the producer/director/publisher of the audiobook didn't believe the narrator was good enough to carry it off (and I can't comment on that, since the narrator's track was inaudible above the din of mood music), or they believed the listener couldn't follow the plot without some assistance. Either way, this was a waste of a book credit. Sad, too, because Stine's writing is so enjoyable.
