I love to listen to B.D. Wong! My grandfather was from the Philippines and crossed the Pacific himself. He started his 2nd family in California. One of his many sons was my father. They are both gone now. The story was on my 3rd grader's reading list for the start of school year 21-22. I cried cause I, too, miss the mountains and rivers of my childhood.

I love this book!

Allen Say's bittersweet masterpiece tells the story of his grandfather, and his life split between the US and Japan. Being a children's book, the prose is spare, almost poetry. B.D. Wong is the perfect narrator. Listen at least once with the picture book in front of you. It should be available at most libraries.

One of all time best children's books
