Publisher's summary

Duet narration with Stella Hunter and Connor Crais.

A dead mage, a missing friend, and an unpredictable alliance merge into a volatile package sending Rory careening through the Arcane elite's deadly secrets.

Rory Costas, Arcane Transporter, is finally out from under the Guild's thumb and ready to jump-start her career as an independent contractor. Even better than the potential income, her promising future offers the additional perk of keeping her coveted magic out of the hands of the all-powerful Arcane Families. But when a dead mage drops at her doorstep on the same morning her best friend and roommate, Lena, goes missing, Rory is drawn out of her comfort zone and into an ominous race against time.

Retracing Lena's convoluted path through the Arcane elite's moneyed secrets, bitter vendettas, and lethal curses, Rory crashes into Zev Aslanov's investigation of the murdered mage. When the Cordova Family's enigmatic hunter reveals the dead man was Lena's last client, Rory must convince Zev her missing friend is a victim, not a suspect. To uncover the truth and save her friend, Rory agrees to work with Zev, even though their uneasy partnership may mean revealing her hidden magic.

As the clock ticks down, can they dodge Zev's suspicions and Rory's secrets to expose the real evil mastermind, or will they crash and burn?

Grave Cargo races into the Arcane Transporter urban fantasy series with a high-octane ride filled with unexpected turns, so buckle in for a pulse-pounding, magical thrill ride.

Missing Book / Books

All these characters know each other and have past drama. It turns out there is a novella first book, and possible a first series these books are a spin-off from. So you spend most of the book being told about the real first book. I gave up. And, no audible does not have the first book or any of the book series this might be a spin-off of. Why do authors allow this stuff? More importantly, what does audible not understand about series? Audible is in need of content, I have been a listener here for years. When you pick up a new author you should pick up all the series. Audible should also do it in order and let the listener decide. I so dislike when Audible picks and chooses. I have beloved authors whom Audible just steps over series from for whatever reason. Audible will carry 3 of 4 different series by an author. Why? I understand authors may need money or a foot in door. But, I appreciate and would support an author who cared enough about their readers to do the thing right from the beginning.

Love the duet narration

The narration made this worthwhile to listen to. Both narrators were excellent and had very nice voices. Otherwise, I’m not too sure of the story itself. There was a combination of redundant descriptions and too few explanations. There was a lot of reference to a prior case which I’m assuming was in the prequel which is not available through Audible at this time. Without the backstory, I got lost in some of the explanations-frustrating. Despite my criticisms, it was an interesting story. I have not yet decided if I’m going to listen to the next book.
