About this listen

America, once a thriving and prosperous nation, is now an empty decaying wasteland - everything changed in the blink of an eye. In Grid Down: Reality Bites, a high-altitude nuclear blast causing an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) destroys the power grid, catapulting life as we knew it back to the 1800s. The saga continues in Grid Down: Perceptions of Reality (Volume 2, Part 3). A small band of survivors desperately struggle to survive the chaos that ensues. Now a post-apocalyptic world, they must rely on their primal instincts to escape destruction, disease, and death. In this book, the story of Grid Down continues, following Mark and Eric with their small band of survivors.

Wanted to kill the narrator!!

Good story if the narrator wasn't so flat and mispronounced the words!! Basically no editing.

For the most part, good story. Mr. Singleton could

have done better with the pronunciation of a few words, but barring that, good continuation of the overall story.

This Chapter of the Saga is Disappointing

Where does Grid Down: Perceptions of Reality rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Of the "Grid Down" series, this book ranks as the worst. While not one hundred percent unenjoyable, the stories did little to advance the series. In fact, it began to sound like a soap opera. I enjoy character development but there appeared to be more conflict for its own sake than was warranted.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I hate putting people on blast. However, the narrator did a terrible job. His mispronunciation of (often simple) words, poor cadence and inappropriate accentuation of words make the book hard to listen to. There are times when he, literally, cannot go a paragraph without offending the sensitive ear. Without a doubt, I'd say that he is in the top three worst narrators that I have experienced on an Audible listen.

Any additional comments?

This story is more like a placeholder for the next book in the series. If you aren't willing to be content with listening to a synopsis of this entrant of the series as part of the next book's exposition of what has gone before then, by all means, put yourself through the experience but have your expectations appropriately set. If you can do without the pain than do so.

High Hopes, Low Results

I had high hopes that the series would be easier to listen to and more entertaining with a new narrator, but I was thoroughly glad the book/series is over! The narrator's voice was limited and sounded nasally and there were too many mispronunciations! The narrator had little if any inflection and intonation and sometimes I wondered if the writer had forgotten to include commas, periods or other punctuation marks? I must admit one of his mispronunciations made me and other family members bust out laughing! I think this book series would have faired better with either a great narrator, someone with experience in this genre or by reading it by myself!
