About this listen

In early February of 1968, at the beginning of the Tet Offensive, Private First Class Gregory V. Short arrived in Vietnam as an 18-year-old US Marine. Amid all of the confusion and destruction, he began his tour of duty as an 81mm mortarman with the 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, which was stationed at Con Thien near the DMZ. While living in horrendous conditions reminiscent of the trenches in World War I, his unit was cut off and constantly being bombarded by the North Vietnamese heavy artillery, rockets, and mortars. Direct, honest, and brutal in his observations, Short holds nothing back in describing the hardships of modern warfare and our leaders' illusions of success.

Really good book. As an OIF/OEF USMC infantry combat veteran, I appreciated the details this book got into. I really enjoyed it.

As a fellow vet, I enjoy these types of books, and this book is a good one for sure. But the recording was done at such a low volume unless I'm indoors doing nothing else, the volume is not loud enough for me. I usually listen to audiobooks while I walk, but it is impossible to hear this book when I'm outdoors, walking. I've also evidently tried to listen to too much of this book to be able to return it. I'll finish the book in a quiet environment, but this problem should have been caught and fixed before offering the book on the Audible.com website, in my opinion. It ought to be withdrawn pending fixing the audio volume.

Good Book but terribly low volume recording.

The volume on this audiobook is impossible to hear. Very disappointed. Don't bother unless you have an amp on your phone.
