True love never dies. Emma Donohue begs to differ.
When a late-night accident claims the love of her life, Emma secludes herself in memories of James. In his sandy brown hair and clear blue eyes. In their innocent first kiss and declarations of love. In their plans for a life together after college. But happy dreams can’t rid her of the guilt she carries. She can’t erase her actions the night he died. She can’t erase her reaction at his funeral. And she can’t erase the hollow void that fills her chest and consumes her heart.
The first time Emma hears James’ voice, she’s astounded. It sounds as if he’s standing right beside her, and she fears her shattered heart is trying to drive her mad. But as she continues to hear the voice, she finds comfort in it. With the help of her best friend, Shel, and handsome newcomer Dane, she tries to move forward and start living again.
Until the voice in her head turns out to be more. So much more.
You know what they say.
True love never dies.
Guardian is the first story in the Guardian Trilogy by Sara Mack.

Sarah Colton is also a new to me narrator, but the performance was so well done and the emotions for each of the characters were very clear and easy to feel.

The narration was great and helped me to feel the anguish of Emma and her healing. Ms. Colton was very expressive and helped to immerse me in their world all the more.

At the beginning, the story does jump from present to past, but it is very clear where you are at in the story. Emma is a junior at Western Michigan when something tragic happens in her life. She loses her lifelong best friend and boyfriend James. You learn about how James gets Emma to do things she would not normally do, like wear a dress, as Emma is a tomboy, There friendship and love kept me say, "Awww," out loud. One day they have a fight and James leaves. The rest of the world suffers a great loss by losing him. Even after James is gone, Emma still finds sweet memories of him, including a very sweet note.
Emma's parents do not know what to do with her, so her parents have her best friend Shel come stay with her for the summer. They get a summer job together at a golf course, where they meet Matt and Dane. Soon after, Emma starts being able to see James. James is now a Guardian, but there are all sorts of rules and caveats that come with James's new role and training. The biggest one being that if Emma chooses to love no one else for the rest of her life, when she dies, she can free James and be with him. Only most people do fall in love again.
From there, there are several events that happened that shocked and surprised me. My emotions were all over the place during this book. I have not had a book do that to be in a very long time. I cried both happy, sweet, and sad tears.
THE LAST LINE OF THE BOOK! I need the second book in the Guardian trilogy to be out now! I cannot wait to learn what happens next in this story!
Sarah Colton does an amazing job with the narration. I knew where I was, who was talking, and her infliction and emotion are spot on. She has an absolutely beautiful, clear, and distinct voice.

Only Love Can Release a Guardian

I love this book It was beautiful, tragic, happy, sweet, and absolutely gut wrenching all tied up into one pretty package. This book was so unique and that is what captured me from the get go.

Such a powerful story of love and loss. What at first starts off as a story about a girl (Emma) grieving the loss of her beloved boyfriend (James) quickly turns into a paranormal journey when he returns. At first, she is freaked out until she realizes that she isn’t crazy. James is really there, and he has been assigned as her guardian.
There are so many twists and turns throughout this book, the tug of sadness and Emma’s desire to stay true to James throughout the book really tugged at my heartstrings. It seemed as if she really loved him, and the whole decision of James’ at the end of the story left her totally devastated. I don’t’ want to give any spoilers away, but I will say that I am left in awe of the way the book ended. I need to know what happens next!
The narration is smooth and easy, flowing well with the overall tone of the story to create an enjoyable listening experience.

I Am In Love!

I've listened to this narrator a few times now and am continually more pleased with her performances. I hope the author keeps Sarah Colton and the narrator because she was a perfect fit for Emma and the trilogy. She definitely made this longer listen fly by like nothing. She was really able to capture all the emotion throughout!
Looking forward to more by this author narrator duo and to see where this story goes!
