About this listen

An original novel set in the Halo universe — based on the New York Times best-selling video game series!

October 2559. With the galaxy in the suffocating grip of a renegade artificial intelligence, another perilous threat has quietly emerged in the shadows: The Keepers of the One Freedom, a fanatical and merciless Covenant splinter group, has made its way beyond the borders of the galaxy to an ancient Forerunner installation known as the Ark. Led by an infamous Brute named Castor, the Keepers intend to achieve what the Covenant, in all its might, failed to: Activate Halo and take the last steps on the path of the Great Journey into transcendence.

But unknown to Castor and his new, unexpected ally on the Ark, there are traitors to the cause in their midst — namely the Ferrets, composed of Office of Naval Intelligence operative Veta Lopis and her young team of Spartan-IIIs, who have been infiltrating the Keepers to lay the groundwork for Castor’s assassination. But with ONI’s field operations now splintered and cut off by the Guardian threat, Veta’s original mission has suddenly and dramatically escalated in scope. There’s simply no choice or fallback plan — either the Ferrets somehow stop the Keepers or the galaxy faces an extinction-level event....

Great writing, poor narration.

not very fond of the narrator. She does not so Troy Denning's story or Veta and her Ferrets any justice.

Narrator has not and should not read Halo

I've loved all of Troy Denning's Halo books and have listened to all of them on Audible. It has always been Scott Brick narrating, and he's probably the best reader I've encountered and that's mostly due to his ability to create great voices that are unique to each character. This reader cannot do that. This book filled with hulking brutes and enormous elites is done a disservice by having a female VA. Her range is not present. This is the only Halo book that I haven't enjoyed on audible and I wish dearly that they never select her, or frankly any woman (not sorry) to read Halo titles. It's a good story ruined by an improper reader. I miss Scott.

Holter Graham, Scott Brick and Todd McLaren must

So...I have nothing against female narration but..I am a hard core Halo fan. If it's not Cortana then I aint trying to hear you. Guess I will have to buy this on paperback and listen to my monotone voice in my head. I am sure this lady does a great job as other characters but you gotta have that deep voice for the brutes and elites. Idk I just can't get past it I am kinda butthurt. I won't lie lol. They should have given this lady legacy of onyx first..I think. Anyways try it out. Hopefully you like it. Don't let me ruin your experience! Thank you to all who do the work on these books and keep this series alive!

Fantastic!

Aida did a fantastic job conveying emotions of the characters and the writing was plenty solid.

I'm so glad some of these topics were covered.

Post war halo is so good. this book was so good I hope they make a game of what comes next. the narrator was sub par though. she lacked enthusiasm.

Another great read!

I enjoyed the story, though I struggled to differentiate the narrator's portrayal of the characters.

En-Sign

Not my favorite narrator.
One would think they would proof listen for obvious mispronunciations.

Please double check pronunciations

For the most part, I enjoyed it. the biggest issue for me was the incorrect pronunciation of Ensign. It made me cringe each time she said the rank.
