About this listen

What do you do when the one you’ve always wanted becomes too hard to love? Hailey Taylor's heart has always belonged to Mason Cahill, but one secret has changed everything. Things on the baseball field come easy for Mason Cahill. Why can’t the rest of his life be simple? Mason's finally admitted he wants the one girl he can be himself around, but one secret destroyed that. Their love isn't sweet and simple. It's hot, loud, and messy. But now, when he's finally all in, she’s folded. Sparks fly. Tempers flare. Hearts shatter. One thing is certain…everything has changed. Who will be too hard to love?

My rating for this book, and in fact, for the books prior to this one as well, is 4 stars, mainly for pure entertainment value, not because these books are great literary works - think soap opera or telenovella type entertainment. Basically, a bunch of teens and early twenty-somethings are all sleeping around (mostly the young men, who are stereotypical manwhores) and we find out that everyone is related to each other in one way or another. Virginal females fall in love with their high-school crushes and once in college, lure the objects of their desire into giving up their man-whoring ways, at least for awhile. Throw in some drama, family intrigue, and secret keeping, mix it in with plotting psychopathic, slutty villainesses, add in both real and fake pregnancies, and then top it all off with marriage proposals that result in all being forgiven, and you have your soapy drama! Did I mention that all this happens before any of our female leads have finished their freshman year of college? And for all the hot mess, you can't help but read on to see what happens because somehow the author has managed to make you fall in love with the characters despite their flaws and poor choices and by providing just the right amount of warm, fuzzy, swoony moments.

As for the narrator, she does a pretty good job. She is good with male voices, makes characters distinct enough to know who is who, and is a good actor. My biggest issue is her speaking speed and the way her female characters sometimes sound like chipmunks. I usually listen to most audiobooks at 1.10 to 1.15 speed. I slowed the speed of these books down to 0.95 and sometimes that is still too fast!

Something is in the water in this soapy drama

Woah... what a ride.

Mason and Hailey put me through the wringer!
The hurt, the heartache, the surprises, and revelations had me absolutely riveted.
I'm super happy it worked out the way it did but now... well, I guess, I am going to be put through the wringer again with Cooper and Jaylinn.

Jessica's narration was better this time around.

Emotional rollercoaster

I absolutely love the fact that the books are NOT standalone and layer on each other without repeating the same incidents from book to book. So many layers.

Hooked. Invested in the characters!

Wow this was a roller coaster ride of a story. Mason and Hailey have a hug misunderstanding and he don't tell her. I wanted to scream. The voices are fantastic.

Great story

I was excited and pulled in right away with this book. Hailey and Mason's love story started out in the previous books. We got little sneak peeks info their lives in the previous books. Hailey and Mason's love story is not simple or easy by any means, but they try and try as everything around them tries to destroy their love. Mason is strong willed and hard headed, Hailey is strong willed and speaks her mind with no remorse. She's a strong woman no doubt. Hailey and Mason's love story started out when they were just kids, falling in love with each other and secretly always ended up right back together. Hailey and Mason kept their love life a secret to the world for a very long time because it was easier for them. And throughout all the years they faced so many things that would completely destroy most. Although they lost their way more than once, their love was a once in a lifetime kind of love.

Well, this book was angsty as all hell and I LOVED IT!!!!

Mason...SWOON!!
Hailey...badass!

I was intrigued by these two from the very beginning and finding out all they had been through and still went through had my heart at the pit of my stomach.

The ANGST.

Ah! Loved this story so much!

I loved Hunter, but I think Mason took his spot! Although I am DYING to find out what in the ever-loving hell is going on with Cooper. I have a feeling he will take my heart for quite the ride too!

Narration: Jessica Almasy did better in this book where the female voices are concerned, so it wasn’t bad. I love her male voices though, which is funny to me considering she’s a girl, but oh, well.

4 stars to the narration!
5 stars to the story/book!

This story dragged and dragged because of misunderstanding. As a reader/listener, I didn’t feel connection between the main characters. This type of story I avoid. I almost didn’t finish it because I got annoy by the hero. I also cringed at the sex scenes. Don’t let my review deter you from listening. Find out for yourself!

Another misunderstanding

Eh I enjoyed the continuation but really a couple of conversations and the whole thing could have been resolved so simply. It's al not really believable to be honest and still there is a lot left unresolved. Narration is done well.

So much drama
