About this listen

Lady Rose Summer refuses to abide by her parents' insistence that she marry. Even more distressing, she wants to work. On advice from Captain Harry Cathcart - a noble-born private investigator who knows Rose all too well - her parents agree to let Rose work as a typist and live in a women's hostel.

But life as a working woman isn't quite what Rose imagined: When a playboy is murdered, Rose returns to high society to follow a trail of deception, rumors, and devious plots - even as a singularly calculating killer prepares to end rebellious Rose's sleuthing for good!

Funny and clean

These stories of Lady Rose and her adventures are always fun, and lack the steamy elements that many such authors attempt to sneak into similar tales.

It is a little aggravating that the main characters take so very long to figure out what will make them happy, but maybe that’s true-to-life.

Entertaining

This light historical mystery is well done with good historical detail, well drawn characters and excellent narration. The Adventures of Rose and Harry highlight the poor position even high Society women occupied at this time. Highly recommended, especially if it’s still available for free in the plus catalog

Hysterically funny

Totally contrived but the bit with the doctor made me laugh out loud with each twist.

Delightful service

Narration excellent. Story funny and characters flawed but likeable. Perfect listening for summer relaxation. Can’t wait to start the next one.

Good Background with Working

Predictable, stereotypical characters and an extremely contrived story with an inevitable conclusion. Yet it was still an enjoyable listen. Something to ward off boredom while doing household tasks or working on budgets. The writing was good and characters were likable. And thanks to Davina Porter I always knew who was speaking. She did a marvelous job! I can't comment on her prowess with accents as I haven't any skill in that area myself. But to my ear, her voices and inflections were what made me give the book 4 stars... without her, it would have been 3 stars at best.

Great story, great narrator!

This story was fast moving and made me laugh. Never a dull moment and Davina Porter, as always, was not a disappoint with her performance. I can’t wait to listen to the next one!!

More fun with Harry and Lady Rose

First, I liked the murder mystery. The characters/suspects were interesting. I really like Davina Porter's narration. I like the historical background used and explained. I really like Daisy and Beckett too but Captain Harry and Lady Rose are driving me nuts. They act like junior high kids! Admit how you feel!!
