Publisher's summary

Book two of the Hathor Legacy series

On the planet, Hathor, an old threat re-emerges that may destroy the fragile alliance between the Guardians and Novacorp. When Nadira is called to investigate a rash of fires throughout the city, she discovers the Deshtu, another group with PSI powers who have been purposely kept in the shadows.

Working to uncover the source of the fires, Nadira learns the brutal truth about the origin of the Guardians. The Guardian Elders have plans to make Nadira more powerful, and she may be forced to sever her psychic connection to Jonathan Keel.

When an unexpected ally gives Jonathan information about the Deshtu that connects them to the fires, he becomes a convenient scapegoat for the opposing factions. Nadira puts her life on the line to solve the crime, while the Elders make their move to remove Jonathan from her life forever.

As time runs out, the Guardians prepare for a clash with Novacorp that could plunge the planet into chaos, and a final betrayal forces Nadira to risk everything to save herself and Hathor.

Great narrator, decent story

This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of AudiobookBoom dot com.

The story follows a mystery of burning buildings. Along the way, the characters uncover secret plots and conspiracies. I thought the utopia-feel could have been implemented a little better, for example by showing the good that's done by the guardians. The plot "twist" was predictable, and it made me wonder how their society didn't take it into account in the first place.

I really liked the narrator. I like Howell's accent, Karen's flirty voice, nadira's annoyance. I liked the subtlety she added in chapter 36 where two characters speak in unison. Voice-wise, michael and johnathan both have similar pitch, but their tones are different so they were still distinguishable.

Something is off in the Guardian system.

Would you consider the audio edition of Hathor Legacy to be better than the print version?

I didn't read the print version, but the audio edition brings the book into a new dimension as the characters are vocalized as individuals with personalities of their own. To me, this steps a written book up to the next level.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hathor Legacy?

Something that sticks with me throughout the book is the relationship of Nadira and Jonathan. No matter what others tell them, they stand strong. There is romance present, but it's not the center of the story. It's a lovely addition to the story and shows the beautiful connection our couple has. Even though I worry of Nadira and Jonathan's relationship, Nadira and Jonathan are adamant they are together. I'm so glad for this unwavering believe in them. There is so much going on in the world around them that it is nice to see a solid feel between them. They trust in each other and always give each other the open to make their own decision on if they stay or not, but that they both love each other is always there and we know the choice if it needs to be made.

What does Kristin James bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Kristin, once again, displays why she is one of my favorite voices in narrating stories. She becomes the story and the characters. She starts with emotion in her voice for the opening scene and throughout the book. She easily performs accents to differentiate the woman and men speaking. Each has their own personality in voice, attitude, tone, and presentation. By doing this I can see the character as Kristin's presentation is paired with Deborah's words. This makes it so easy to dive into a new audio book and not get lost.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely! I was drawn to the story by voice and words and wanted to stay with it until I was done.

Any additional comments?

This book ranks among the top of the top. For the story that's written and the depth of the world with a touch of romance, belief in others, action, worry, and the narration. I could go on and on about the written story along with narration here. But I'll stop before I bore you with all the gushing.

But I'll leave you with one last loving sharing paragraph.

I can't express how much I enjoyed this story! The plot and events that take place in this story. The relationship with Nadira and Jonathan. I JUST LOVED IT ALL! Sure, it's a romance and there are rather intimate moments, but the plot and story line was so well done. Deborah Bailey is jumping up my favorite ladder with this story (series). And Kristin with the vocals. WOW! I felt like I was there listening to everything in person.

2nd book Much better than the first book

I very much enjoyed this 2nd book in this Series and the slowness on book 1 was Not repeated at all. Definitely a good listen/read. I Really disliked Michael and the author wrote him so well I want to hit him for his repugnant additude and ego. The Narrator did a lovely job and made the listen a pleasure.

Good Series Worth the Listen

I really like this series. Good narrator, and good writing.
I will say, however, that the story is a bit predictable. I knew what was going to happen next pretty much all the time.
I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

I requested and received a free copy of this audiobook from the author, publisher, or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. I was NOT required to write a positive review and this reflects my honest opinion of the work.

Interesting love story

An interesting story. Love the idea of terraforming planets and the powers a few citizens have on this alien planet. Also loved the dynamic between Nadira and Jonathan. I wanted to punch Michael in the face.

I am not a big fan of love scenes in books, but there weren’t a great deal of them so it didn’t distract from the story line. Because of them this is not appropriate for kids or teens.

Brilliant tale of intrigue

Another gem in this series. Deborah A. Bailey has a gift for weaving tales of intrigue, plotting, and detective work, all placed a futuristic offworld venue. For the most enjoyment, I suggest reading Hathor Legacy Outcast first. I received a free copy of the audio version of this book in exchange for an honest review.

good sequel but not quite as good as the first

The narration was acceptable but lack the force of the first book in the series. Another concern is why intimate and graphics. sexual interludes are so repetitive in this book. Sadly a couple enhance, too many of these sexual interludes distract and adds nothing to good story. Hopefully in the sequel the author will take this into consideration. This is a good story, an excellent theme, the narration isn't as good as the first but acceptable, with all of this still an enjoyable listen.
