About this listen

Hawk's Call - Bad Boy Series: Book One

Robyn felt like she'd lost her little sister Crystal when she ran off and married Guts. She was only 18-years-old and she'd not heard from her in over a month.

But one night, she got a phone call from Crystal asking for help. Unfortunately, the call was cut off when Guts caught her on the phone. Robyn was frantic. She was her only family and she was determined to find her.

Robyn takes what little money she has and heads to Nashville. She checks into a shabby rundown motel. It's all she can afford. She grabs a paper and looks for jobs but doesn't see anything that suits her. The manager of the motel gives her a lead on a job at a biker bar nearby.

Hawk's House is known for its biker customers and live music. It's a rough and tumble kind of place but Crystal is desperate. So, she checks it out.

How bad could it be?

Hawk's Call is book one in the steamy Bad Boy Romance series.

Series can be listened to in any order. HEA guaranteed, and no cliffhanger.

Fun, Quick Listen!

Bad boy romances are fun! And Simone Carter always gives a quick and entertaining story. Robyn leaves town to try and find her sister Crystal. When she reaches Nashville, she looks for a job to help pay her way while looking and ends up at a bar owned by Hawk. Instant chemistry between these two. Simone always adds a little suspense to her romance giving some body to the story. I do enjoy that Robyn is an independent woman, able to support and defend herself. Definitely some good listening with Liisa Blackwell narrating this enjoyable quick novel.

Another Great One by Simone!

I love Simone Carter's stories and this one doesn't disappoint! The story is well written with lovable characters. Robyn is dynamite in a small package, which does get her into trouble here and there and Hawk is, well, Hawk. I loved the chemistry they have. I really enjoyed listening to this story. The narration was well done. Lissa Blackwell really helps to bring the story to life. She gives the characters their own voices and emotions, helping them to come to life for the listener. Overall, a really entertaining listen.

Bad boy with a heart of gold

A first glance Hawk is a bad boy, he rides a motorcycle, he owns a bar, and he certainly looks the part too.
Robyn is a school teacher who is searching for her sister Crystal who's run off with a biker and gotten in over her head.
From the first time Robyn and Hawk meet there's chemistry, but Robyn is determined to stay far away... really she is...

The characters are nicely done, they're believable and easy to connect with. The story line is engaging and is a good mix of romance, sexy fun, and action. I really enjoyed listening to it and I'll definitely be getting my hands on the next book when it's available.

Lissa's narration is good, I enjoyed her character voices and the overall delivery was good. There are a couple of points where there's a small shift in the sound and you can hear a few points where parts have been rerecorded but it's not significant.

This book was supplied free by the author/narrator/publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Good Narration

Would you try another book from Simone Carter and/or Lissa Blackwell?

I would definitely listen to another narration by Lissa Blackwell. The story itself didn't work for me I felt that it was rushed in certain areas and some of the scenes were dragged out. The main character in my opinion was too busy worried about Hawk and not really proactive when it came to finding her sister. I felt like the sister being kidnapped took a backseat to Hawk and Robin forming a relationship. By the rime we got moments with Crystal it felt rushed and I would have liked more development in that area.

Has Hawk's Call turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I will continue to read books in this genre.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Lissa Blackwell was able to capture the emotions of all the characters perfectly and I really enjoyed listening to this story because of her performance. If she wasn't such a good narrator I probably wouldn't have been able to finish.

Could you see Hawk's Call being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No

GOOD CALL ON LISTEN... COVER IS NOT HOW I SEE HIM

Any additional comments?

I was provided this audiobook through Audiobook Boom at no charge by the author in exchange for an unbiased review.

Great characters and a plot full of tension and twists. Hawke is not a "Bad Boy" though, but a strong, large Alpha man, respected and capable. Good thing for Robyn because she needs all the help she can get when facing an evil biker who's hell-bent on keeping and using her sister.

There were a couple storylines that didn't add up (unless I missed something). For example: How can a 13 year old Robyn raise Crystal alone? She's not old enough to have custody. Whatever. None were important enough to skew the story and the story was a good one!

Lissa did an excellent job with narration, as always!

Two Thumbs UP!

He's Not Exactly a Bad Boy

I am a fan of Simone Carter books and this was a cute addition to my collection. The story was short and sweet and featured a HEA.
There were a few small details within the book that an editor should have caught that had me cringe (for example, you can't hear ducks' quacks echoing, or sit down at a bar that was just described as being completely full). The other objection I have is that it's the first book in a so-called "Bad Boy Series" but the main male character isn't a 'Bad Boy' at all. Rugged, handsome, sexy, and built - yes. Bad Boy - no.

With all of that being said, I did enjoy the book and would recommend it to others who are looking for a short adventure.

A Good Bad Boy Story

Would you listen to Hawk's Call again? Why?

No, although it was a nice story, once is enough. I can only listen to so many in my lifetime and there are so many out there to listen to.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hawk's Call?

When they went fishing

Which scene was your favorite?

When Robyn came across the counter and kicked the biker who was trying to make her wait on him before the other customers who were already in line.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No, the entire book was well developed.

Any additional comments?

I got this ARC via audiobook boom. The narrator did a great job. I will listen to the next book in the series.

Loved the H but the h was a freaking idiot

I really got into this book and totally loved the H. The pace was very good as far as the main and subplots. However, one thing that I CANNOT stand is a weak whiney woman - especially one that always says that they are so independent and self-sufficient but makes some of the most idiotic decisions.
