About this listen

Time is running out for Hannah. With her life hanging by a thread and Tate trying to kidnap her, she finds help in an unusual quarter – the man who put the narcoleptic memory block on her as a child. Yet the powerful hypnotist may not be all that he seems. It’s difficult to trust a man who regularly hypnotizes his wife against her wishes, and who is much too interested in Jack’s unnatural abilities.

With so much at stake, the last thing Hannah and Jack need is to be apart. Yet they cannot touch each other if they want to stay alive.

This thrilling conclusion to the 1st Freak House Trilogy will take you on an emotional roller coaster with twists, turns, highs and lows that will leave you gasping for breath.

First, know that I love C.J. Archer. I love the characters in her books, the stories behind the characters, and the descriptions of all the people and places. I also enjoy the stories behind each of them. My intro to Ms. Archer was the long series Glass & Steele, starting with The Watchmaker’s Daughter. I was hooked. Many have followed, and this series did not disappoint. It was just over too quickly. I loved the people in this and the lives they endured, for lack of a better word. But, as I have found in her books that I have read, the main characters always seem to figure out a way to overcome their obstacles. They may not be the exact dream of all people, but they are good endings where people are pleased with the outcome. The descriptions that she manages to conjure of the places where these people live and go through their lives are amazing. I could picture the house in which they lived, both as children and young adults. The house in which they lived in this story was a bit creepy, but i guess mine would be as well if I had demons living around it with an old dungeon where children were caged. But there was also an old church place that, while ruined and overgrown, was a beautiful place to be in the moonlight. It was a place i would like to have close to be able to go where it’s quiet and a place where I could have time to commune with nature and quiet myself in times of stress. And the pond, or lake, in the moonlight to go for a cleansing and private swim to both exercise and exorcise would be wonderful. Monsters were just that - demons of grotesque shapes and sizes and strengths. And the good guys showed themselves as they were, some flaws, but forever loyal and faithful to those they cane to love and trust. And the flaws of those who appeared to be of questionable character, could be determined to be just that - flaws that reside in so many of us, but pale in the light of their true selves. There is mystery, there is betrayal (both seeming and true) and there are people who are just like so many of those who we meet every day. They are not necessarily bad people, but have, as all of us do, flaws that are sometimes hard to shake. Overall, this is again, a series of books that paint such a good picture of human frailties and goodness, of flaws and good behavior, of good people who do some bad things, and bad people who are just plain bad. They are all her. And I think you will think of many of those in your life who could step into the shoes of any of these wonderful characters. Once again, Ms. Archer, thank you so very much for some wonderful evenings in a beautifully described country at a time that had magic and mystery! I thoroughly enjoyed the visit, and will look forward to visiting again in the future.

Good story, narration, concept, and wrapped up loose ends. I’m about to start the next series in this trilogy and looking forward to seeing some of these characters in it.

Great wrap up
