Publisher's summary

Heart of the West is a collection of 19 short stories that take place in the Southwestern United States, penned by legendary author O. Henry. With his customary wit, the author paints a beautiful - and amusing - picture of the Old West. His stories all end with a twist, often to comedic ends, sometimes with tragedy. O. Henry brings the Old West alive in these stories as only he could.

O. Henry Rides the Range

What does Rich Miller bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I have not listened to a book by Rich Miller prior to this book. The narration is good with just enough of a Western twang to fit with the theme of the book without going overboard. The pacing of the narration is good and overall does the author justice.

Any additional comments?

What can I say, O. Henry is who he is. These are good stories, narrated well by Rich Miller.

Like a pair of comfortable old slippers

O. Henry was one of my first Favorite short story artist. His ability to touch and hold the essential humanity in a given situation with clarity and with startling ease is remarkable. Rich Miller has brought these old but surprisingly relevant stories to life . Having previously only read O. Henry, It is nice to hear this timeless narration .It was worth every minute. Heart of the West

I have always heard about O. Henry, but had never read any of his works. This was an enjoyable romp through the Old West, with typical O. Henry type endings. Most of the books involve romance in some form or other, often with unexpected conclusions.

The narrator was perfect for these stories. Just enough good ole boy accent, but not so much as to be distracting. The only bad thing I can say about this audiobook is that O. Henry loved to use unusual words in his stories & it is hard to stop & look them when listening to a book.

I received the audiobook version of this book from the narrator or publisher & chose to review it.

Classic writing with a fresh performance

I had no idea O'Henry wrote westerns until I saw this book! It's a collection of western stories, all written with his trademark wry, smart wit. I thought the narrator did a great job of making them come to life - he made it easy to hear the different characters, without going overboard on "character" voices. And his pacing is perfect for me to be able to follow along. Plus, his deep, resonant voice is perfect for this genre.
