About this listen

A moving, exciting, and heartfelt American saga inspired by the author's own family memoirs, these words belong to Sarah Prine, a woman of spirit and fire who forges a full and remarkable existence in a harsh, unfamiliar frontier. Scrupulously recording her steps down the path Providence has set her upon - from child to determined young adult to loving mother - she shares the turbulent events, both joyous and tragic, that molded her, and recalls the enduring love with cavalry officer Captain Jack Elliot that gave her strength and purpose.

Rich in authentic everyday details and alive with truly unforgettable characters, These Is My Words brilliantly brings a vanished world to breathtaking life again.

This was a well written book. It was traumatic but real and you laugh and cry. It is a good historical fiction.

Loved it

I wanted to experience life for women in the pioneer days and this was a great way to do that, although it didn't sound as hard as it probably was. Some of the hard details were glosses over for plot.

I wasn't crazy about the narrator's affectation of her voice. I almost didn't listen but pushed through.

A good portrayal of the 1880s

I started listening, and almost stopped, trying to tune myself to the Narrator. After becoming accustomed to the flow of her speech pattern, I began to really delve into the story, and ended up enjoying the performance overall. The story was a little predictable, but kept you guessing, and did have some unusual and surprising twists. I'll most likely continue the series. Overall this is well narrated, and an interesting (yet historically accurate) read.

Great story, great characters. Looking forward to reading the second book in this series. Didn't love the narrators style, but that's a personal preference. Everyone I tell this book about either already loves it or calls to tell me they picked it up, read it, and loved it.

Love historical fiction

Great book but the narrator was so bland it disappointed. I highly recommend the book but lady talking will put you to sleep

I loved this book for the diary style it was written in. I could go back and listen to a part again or find my place by paying attention to the month and year of the chapters. The characters are vivid in my mind, as is their home on the prairie. I loved the bits of romance and the fear I felt from the terrors. This author kept me listening to the end. I lost sleep because I didn't want to turn it off. The narrator's voice became the real lead character immediately in my mind.

Great story full of ups and downs and the trials that come along with this late 1800s time period.
