About this listen

At the request of Her Majesty's government, private enquiry agent Cyrus Barker agrees to take on his least favorite kind of assignment - he's to provide security for a secret conference with the French government. The conference is to take place on the private estate of Lord Hargrave on a remote island off the coast of Cornwall. The goal of the conference is the negotiation of a new treaty with France. The cover story for the gathering is a house party - an attempt to introduce Lord Hargrave's two unmarried sons to potential mates.

But shortly after the parties land at the island, Lord Hargrave is killed by a sniper shot, and the French ambassador's head of security is found stabbed to death. The only means of egress from the island - a boat - has been sent away, and the means of signaling for help has been destroyed. Trapped in a manor house with no way of escape, Cyrus Barker and his assistant, Thomas Llewelyn, must uncover which among them is the killer before the next victim falls.

This novel represents a solid addition to the series. While it's well written and interesting, it's also a bit ludicrous in the same sense as a B horror movie. Even so, I recommend it. It's the best of the And Then There Were None style mysteries that I've read.

Good read

This one had some complicated twists and secondary plots, so I had to listen to it twice through to grasp the genius of the plot. I really enjoyed this, and it's now one of my favourites in this series!!!

Great atmospheric mystery!

This is like Most Dangerous Game meets Clue in its typical clever style! My favorite of the series so far! Can't wait for more!

The narration on all these books is outstanding. Great storyline and I was kinda surprised in who done it!

Fun listen

These stories tend to be full of details about historical (Victorian) London and related countries, as well as glimpses of China via background on Mr. Barker. This one was more of a classical locked-on-an-English-estate mystery, but with some twists on the Agatha Christie model. Good fun, trying times for our heroes!

More classic mystery than usual

Thomas and Barker are tasked with protection detail on an isolated island, only for everything to go horribly wrong as members of the family begin to be murdered. In the locked room style, with no escape of the island, Thomas, Barker, Phillips, and the guest fight to survive while flushing out the culprit.

This book is one of the best in the series so far, looking forward to the next one! Anthony Ferguson is the perfect narrator for the Barker Llewellyn stories!
I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
Our duo has been hired to protect a family on an island, and the mystery itself is a very good one, with a couple of twists here and there.
Two thumbs up from me!

This is my favorite series!!
