Publisher's summary

Oliver, the funny, SPCA-adopted Beagle-cross is like any other dog and has a basic range of feelings. He just has a lot of them! Anxiety, depression, lack of self-esteem, and loneliness accompany Oliver to his new home where he sheds a few of these issues and teaches his new owners to cope with the rest.

As Oliver matures, his humans learn that love, compassion, flexibility, tolerance, patience, and acceptance apply to all beings, but mostly, to Oliver. Of course, that is, until Lexi the new puppy arrives!

Cute perspective

This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I would listen to another. It’s a cute story from the perspective a puppy sent to the pound then adopted by a new family. His take on life is self-centered and when the new puppy arrives, he questions the truth of his situation. Funny condensed excerpt...“Mom displayed disturbing psychological behavior-wiping off her scent with vinegar- how was I to know she’d mistake my marking for a leaky toilet”

This is the first book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( E Roy Worley ). He does a pretty good voice for the dog. He tells the story with a ‘ matter-of-fact, I’m a cute dog’ tone.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing. I think this is a good kids story.

Fun and playful puppy story

This was a very cute story written about a dog and we get to experience all the adventures through his eyes. The way the world was written from is POV was adorable and a lot of fun. While it does touch on some of the struggles he faced its done so with empathy and maintains its light hearted feel all the way though. there a lot of fun laughable moments throughout and over all we really enjoyed listening to this one. The narration was very appropriate for the story and age range.

Oliver - a dog with depression...:)

It's a very short listen, just a bit over an hour long, but it's very entertaining...

It's written in the 1st person and Oliver turns out to be a wonderful narrator - it's real fun to listen to a dog's perception of human behaviour...:) Oliver is not a sweet, cute, little puppy but a Beagle-cross with anxieties, depression and low self-esteem. He's also witty, observant and very tolerant when it comes to his human parents; you just can't help laughing at some remarks he makes when he comments on himself and on what his human Mum and Dad do...

The book is very well written, both plotwise and language-wise; it has the kind of humour I like, a bit abstract, ironic but subtle. And the main character, Oliver the dog, is a complex individual who brings to mind a filmy kind of grandpa - grumpy on the outside with a heart of gold inside:)

The only fault of the book? It's too short:) It ends rather abruptly, just when you want to find out what will happen when Oliver and Lexi are left home alone while their parents travel to Europe...:)

Narration by Mr Worley is very good. It's quite fast, but clear, and you can defnitely identify with Oliver (however strange it may sound) in his interpretation:)

Cute story

I enjoyed this quick, cute story. It was fun to see life through Oliver's eyes and I found myself laughing out loud from time to time when Oliver would give us his view of things going on around him. Narration was good!

Made a big bald man cry

I was not expecting this book to leave me teary-eyed. This is a heart-warming tale of loss and longing told from the innocent perspective of a mutt. As Oliver travels from his birth home to his forever home, we see how even through confusion and loss the heart of a dog is only full of love for those who love him. Oliver is a good boy who suffers from ADD (All Dogs Do it) and teaches his family to adapt to and love him.

A Thoroughly Enjoyable Book

Of course, I am a dog lover to begin with it so why wouldn’t I love a book written from a “dog’s eye view”? The only thing I can say in way of a review is if you have ever been around a dog then listen to this book; it’s that simple. It’s honest, engaging and entertaining. A liver treat to all involved.

Oliver

First off, I enjoyed the narration. The voice Roy Worley used fit the roll of Oliver very well.

My kids were very excited to hear this book and enjoyed it quite a bit. As with most children, they like dogs and enjoyed hearing a story from a dog's perspective. They were engaged with the story and laughing a fair amount.

Story Time

I Just loved Roy's voice. Listening to him be "Oliver" with my daughter and nephew under a blanket was an amazing way to spend the afternoon. We laughed and listened, i answered some questions. The kids fell asleep with a smile on their faces and I got endless cuddles. Thank you Roy, just loved it!
