About this listen

One single mom. One chaotic family. One quirky stranger. One irresistible love story from the New York Times best-selling author of Me Before You.

American audiences have fallen in love with Jojo Moyes. Ever since she debuted stateside, she has captivated fans and reviewers alike, and hit the New York Times best-seller list with the word-of-mouth sensation, Me Before You. Now, with One Plus One, she's written another contemporary opposites-attract love story that reads like a modern-day Two for the Road.

Suppose your life sucks. A lot. Your husband has done a vanishing act, your teenage stepson is being bullied, and your math-whiz daughter has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that you can't afford to pay for. That's Jess' life in a nutshell - until an unexpected knight-in-shining-armor offers to rescue them. Only Jess' knight turns out to be Geeky Ed, the obnoxious tech millionaire whose vacation home she happens to clean. But Ed has big problems of his own, and driving the dysfunctional family to the Math Olympiad feels like his first unselfish act in ages...maybe ever.

One Plus One is Jojo Moyes at her astounding best. You'll laugh, you'll weep, and when you hear the last page, you'll want to start all over again.

Bad luck, Good fortune

The plot is far fetched, admittedly. However, the characters are all sweet, true, and humorous in their own way thus making the unbelievable tolerable. Plus, the narration couldn't have done the characters better. In the final analysis, this books is a reminder that you find the best in others and the best in yourself at the darkest times.

Didn't sound very interesting BUT boy was I wrong.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I purchased the book because of the good reviews. I kept putting off starting the book until it was all I had available. Once I started it I could not put it down. Very engaging characters - flaws and all. Well written.

Do the Math and Warm Your Heart

I had this for awhile before I read it. Why did I wait so long? Is it the cover or the start of the book? Well don't let it put you off. This is a sneaky little surprise.

I love Brit Lit. I love the humor and the peculiar but expressive slang. But what I love more are books that have alot to say about society without cramming it down your throat. Instead, they just present the facts and push them to the brink and let the numbers add up as they may.

Meet Jess, a hard working mom of a blended family of two kids whose husband is an absentee dead beat. Meet Ed who is a Geek-illionaire who made a snap decision out of desperation that he now can't bear to share with his ailing father. Throw into the mix a goth boy, a math girl, a rescue dog, and a number of desperate situations, and you get a page turner. It is predictable, but it is also so much more, so it can be encountered on different levels and that -- plus its heart -- is why I loved it.

At the heart of the story is the famous parable of the different degrees of forgiveness. I'm not spoiling anything by telling you this, it's obvious from the beginning. What's not obvious is how it will all unfold. What was not obvious to me was how often this book would tug at my heart, and not in the just typical romantic comedy way.

Take all of this and add in a writer who knows the craft, and you get a darn good book with staying power. So get past the title and the cover and get busy reading it. You won't regret it.

This author always makes me cry

Every book I've listened to by this author has had me with a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes at some point in the book. She has a talent for writing books that pull at your heartstrings. The narrators also fit the story very well.

Another great story! About family struggles and respect for each character as an individual. A Refreshing change from
Tragedy, violence and drama. A
funny supportive story about a single Mom’s strength and success despite her lack of material wealth. A charming book, loved it!

Positive and Uplifting

Wonderful feel good story about a family with more than their fair share of trouble. They continue to put one foot in front of the other hoping for an improvement in their. A great idea as we emerge from Covid.
The characters are well drawn out and the readers added to the story. Easy listening. Highly recommend this book.
