About this listen

A British special agent is murdered for an unusual artifact.

On any given day, the experts at Atlanta’s International Archaeological Agency crisscross the globe to rescue ancient relics long feared lost to time, war, or thieves.

IAA agents have recovered billions’ worth of missing antiquities, have wiped out entire networks of smugglers, and have even solved a murder at the Vatican. Their successes have made headlines from Tokyo to Turin to Tulsa.

But some mysteries require deeper investigation—enigmas so puzzling that they’ve defied the explanations of history, science, and faith for millennia. Enter the IAA’s top two researchers, Alex Simms and Tara Watson, among the brightest, most dogged investigators ever to unearth a secret.

This husband-and-wife duo has played a key role in every major success at the agency, but they’ve never been tested like this before. Their first assignment? To track down and stop a resurgent order of neo-Nazis who believe a cache of ancient stones holds the key to a new, eternal German Reich. Alex and Tara—whose “weapons” normally include computers, lab equipment, and reference books—are about to face an entirely new brand of war: in the real world, against real criminals…with real guns.

They’ll need every bit of skill, luck, and maybe a miracle to stop these madmen who are hell-bent on opening Hell’s Gate. USA Today best-selling author Ernest Dempsey, creator of the popular Sean Wyatt series, unlocks a new realm of danger in this, his first in a new collection of thrillers.

No Emotion

AI reader was better than expected, but need emotion and change of inflection when changing characters. One example the the AI had was there was a character referred to as “Doc”. Several times it reference Dax. Another would be the city of La Paz Bolivia, it called it L.A. Paz. Still needs some work to replace humans and bring life to the stories.

Love the storyline, but Virtual Voice almost ruined the whole book.

I have always thoroughly enjoyed all Ernest Dempsey books, especially the whole Sean Wyatt series The books are all well written with great storylines, and they hold the reader without any foul language. This new series doesn’t disappoint, but Virtual Voice was absolutely horrible. If you’re familiar with the Relic Runner series, you know the main character’s name is Dak . . . not so with Virtual Voice. Other than one time, Dak was pronounced Doc, leaving me to wonder where this character came from, until I realized he was the Relic Runner, Dak. Some of the story takes place in La Paz, but it was read as L.A. Paz. Sentences are chopped up, leaving some parts hanging, and there is no inflection of the voice, leaving the read a little flat. I think this book, itself, is great, but I would have actually enjoyed reading it myself, versus Virtual Voice. In the future, I will be careful not to waste a credit on any books read with Virtual Voice.

Good paranormal mystery. Keep losing focus, AI narrative so flat it put me to sleep.
