About this listen

An auto accident with a bad boy sparks a fake engagement.... Is it fate or a heartbreaking mistake?

After her fiancé dumped her just months before their wedding, Liza Sorenson swore off dating. The holiday season is ruined when Liza is forced to attend a design conference and meet with her ex - the guy who now wants her back. She needs help to fend off her ex, so when she gets into an accident with Jaime Maldonado, she sees an opportunity.

After a run-in with the police, Jaime becomes the “bad boy” of Echo Ridge. He needs to present a good image to fight off his ex-wife and win an upcoming court battle involving the custody of his son. An auto accident is the last thing he needs until he realizes he might be able to use it to his advantage.

Jaime and Liza enter into a fake engagement, each with the intention of using the other to solve their problems, but they didn’t bargain on getting their hearts entangled with their agreement. Liza is hesitant to trust, and Jaime is hiding a secret bigger than she could ever imagine. Will this fake engagement damage their hearts or help them find a way to heal?

Eh!

It’s not good or bad. It’s just ok, the two major “fights” instead of talking it out she lashes out and leaves. She doesn’t stand up for herself when it counts but wants to lash out on the one person who’s there for her. The concept of the storyline is good but the writing is juvenile. For someone who’s fighting for his son, he really isn’t involved much. Leaving the choice of visitation to a child who’s at boarding school is crazy no wonder the kid thinks and believes what his mother is feeding into his head.

It's ok

I think you should read this book verses listening to it. The narrator wasn't good for this story. She has a nice soothing voice but she sounded like she was so bored and didn't put any effort into it.

Must be early writing?

I liked the wedding planner mysteries box set very much. (EXCEPT that all the victims killed were female!). The narrator for that set was FABULOUS and now is second on my list of favorite narrators. This writing was not as good, in fact, the writing was much more stilted and juvenile in context. That was disappointing. I very much enjoyed listening throughout the story without having to skip explicit sex scenes. Very clean and moral.

Maturity imbalance.

She has one of those hypocritical characters I just can’t agree with. Self absorbed, bury her head in the sand and interrupt anybody else that has an issue or tries to talk.

Struggled

I really struggled to get through this one. Liza is a self-righteous idiot! She had no trouble lying to everyone and using people but God forbid anyone should treat her like she treated others. She claimed that she wanted to know why he kept things from her but instead of letting him tell his side of the story she blocks his calls and whines. UGH! She's completely repugnant. The dialog was childish. A big fat no! If this is representative of this author's work, I just can’t! It was a freebie and I still want my money back.
