About this listen

A showrunner and her assistant give the world something to talk about when they accidentally fuel a ridiculous rumor in this debut romance.

Hollywood powerhouse Jo is photographed making her assistant Emma laugh on the red carpet, and just like that, the tabloids declare them a couple. The so-called scandal couldn't come at a worse time - threatening Emma's promotion and Jo's new movie.

As the gossip spreads, it starts to affect all areas of their lives. Paparazzi are following them outside the office, coworkers are treating them differently, and a “source” is feeding information to the media. But their only comment is "no comment".

With the launch of Jo’s film project fast approaching, the two women begin to spend even more time together, getting along famously. Emma seems to have a sixth sense for knowing what Jo needs. And Jo, known for being aloof and outwardly cold, opens up to Emma in a way neither of them expects. They begin to realize the rumor might not be so off base after all...but is acting on the spark between them worth fanning the gossip flames?

Critic reviews

Something to Talk About is a delicious slow-burn with the kind of Hollywood ending that will make you believe in soul mates. Emma and Jo’s story of overcoming obstacles to fight for true love will have you swooning and smiling long after you’ve finished the book.” (Lyssa Kay Adams, author of The Bromance Book Club)

“A fresh and fun romance, featuring two witty, intelligent women coming to terms with both their careers and their growing attraction to each other in a glittering Hollywood setting. Meryl Wilsner is a great new voice, whose perspective is both extremely welcome and desperately needed.” (Jen Deluca, author of Well Met)

"[A] supremely readable slow-burn romance that had me yelling, 'JUST KISS ALREADY!' as I flew through the pages." (Kerry Winfrey, author of Waiting for Tom Hanks)

Amazingly sweet slowburn

I loved this! The narrators/ VAs do a wonderful job bringing life to the characters. I usually don't go for boss/assistant type romances, but this one does it in the best way possible. It's so sweet and well written and the slowburn makes it all the better. Highly recommend!

Light reading, lesbian/bisexual main characters

Ok so I read this for a book club.
It’s good, I enjoyed the characters, but it’s very predictable and bland in the story.
You wait 24 freaking chapters for them to get together and you get a blink of a final connection. The anticipation is decent but the climax is boring.
Bland half ass sex scene with barely a description.
Overall I enjoyed the book but was very let down by the lack of really good deep content.

Couldn’t get past the character flaws

I wish I liked this story more: I absolutely loved the narration and inherently the characters appealed to me, but the immaturity of some of Emma’s thoughts and decisions was starting to grate on me and then made it impossible to get past. I think the juxtaposition between the two characters and their thinking has a lot of potential and I like the slow burn, but sadly that did stop me. I’m going to try and listen again after finishing my next listen.

oh god i LOVED IT

so many comments complained over the way too slow burn, and yeah, i admit it was longer than usual BUT OMG IT WAS SO WORTH IT. I loved them as a couple and romance, but this book had so much more and i loved been able to see that too. I truly loved it and will probably re read it jaja

Loved it

I got annoyed with Jo some of the times. I understand what she was going through, but I wanted to shake her so bad. Overall though I totally enjoyed this one.

Slow Burn bite cute

Just a cute little story not much depth to it and it is very hallmark cheesy.

Great but a little slow

I really did enjoy this book, both characters are complex and their chemistry is palpable. My one and only negative point is it’s a little slow and magic only happens in the last 45 min of the book and I wish they went more in depth with that
