About this listen

Detective Rita Hobbes’ life has been mysteriously erased, and her day isn’t about to get any better.

All Rita wants is to abandon dreary Blackpool and start over somewhere new. But when she triggers a magical hex that renders her invisible and traps her in her hometown, escape seems impossible.

Rita soon finds that Blackpool has some hidden secrets: magical artifacts fashioned in heaven, a fallen angel buried beneath the sea in a glass prison, and living nightmares in fine suits and animal masks that can turn your mind to soup.

Thrust into a world she doesn’t understand, Rita finds herself trying to solve a case that by any sane measure is unsolvable.

Worse still, the only person she can turn to for help is a self-confessed liar, cheat, and - according to him - the future king of Great Britain.

Listen to Hexed Detective and discover a magical, pause-resisting urban fantasy you cannot put down. Like Neil Gaiman? Then you’ll love Hexed Detective.

Good Paranormal Story!

Not one of my normal books I listen to but I very happy that I received this book. I was ask if I would like to listen to this audiobook and I love to find a New Author to listen to. I wasn’t asked to review but I always try my damnest to review every book I listen to!
I always tell myself not to judge the book from the first chapter.

When I started the book I thought this is starting out weird but continue to listen. It took me a few characters to get use to the narrator’s. I like when a narrator can do different voices for each character. But if they can’t I definitely enjoy listening to multiple narrator’s.
The story is well written and narrated. Is a little different/ unique storyline but well developed. I found myself getting sucked into the story.
The narrator’s do a great job with the characters, voices and emotions of the characters making it easier to distinguish between the characters.
I recommend this audiobook!

Was difficult to get through first part of book

The first part of the book almost lost me, I nearly put it down and look for another book. Then it finally started going much better and keep my interest. This is I think the 1st book in this World I have read and since I did purchase "The Spectral Detective " collection book 1-3 I will be listening to that next.

The beginning to yet another amazing series!

This one was a bit more serious than the others I have read; still, it was action packed, fast-paced and full of twists. Absolutely worth the listen.

Magically delicious!

No, I’m not talking about a breakfast cereal. I am talking about this amazing story from the Uncanny Kingdom. All the Uncanny Kingdom stories I have read and listened to have been absorbing, entertaining, and positively addictive – I am pleased to say that this one is no exception. Detective Rita Hobbs is crushing it as the snarky born-to-be-a-detective young woman who has her eyes opened to a whole new world when a couple of young ladies go missing from her town of Blackpool. Don’t miss this imaginative, fun, sometimes funny, and often truly creepy tale from the twisted yet brilliant minds of Matthew Stott and David Bussell. If you prefer the audiobook version, I can honestly say that the narrator of this story, Millie Jones, did a fabulous job of bringing the story and all the characters to life. Her voice, cadence, and inflections were, in my opinion, perfect for Rita and for all the other characters, as well. Stellar job all the way around. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next story.

I was provided with an audiobook copy of this story by the authors and I am voluntarily offering my honest and unbiased review.
