Publisher's summary

The final installment in an exciting series from author Alyson McLayne, featuring fierce, loyal Scottish Highlanders and the beautiful lasses who steal their hearts.

No one ever accused Kerr Macalister of being a nice man. Everyone would agree, however, that when he makes up his mind about something, no one will change it. Which is why everyone knows Isobel MacKinnon will end up his wife.

Isobel spent most of her childhood in love with tall, dark, and deadly Kerr. It wasn't until she was 15 and failed to entice Kerr into kissing her that things turned sour. Now, Kerr is the one trying to entice her. But Isobel knows how to hold a grudge and won't be swayed unless he proves his love. So she tricks him into believing she's eloping with another man. Kerr responds by kidnapping her to a remote cabin in the Highlands where both love and danger lurk....

Love Rosalyn Landor narration

All the different voices. it tells the story so much better
I did not like that I had to buy the last book of the series or use one of my credits

I am very upset

That this is the last in the series! It ended with potential for one more and I am very much hoping it will be soon!

This was a fantastic installment in the series. I thought, for a minute, that it was going to be the dreaded storyline of the heroine spending the entire book going back and forth fighting against the relationship. But, thankfully that did not happen. This story was action packed, and there was one point that I sped it up to 2x because I had to get through the scene to find out all was well!
I loved every single one of the secondary characters, and loved our wolf just as much! My only complaint is that I am a wee bit confused on who was actually the villain. Lol. There seemed to be a lot of chaos around that and I obviously didn’t follow it well enough. But, I don’t really care, we had resolution.

Narration, as most often is the case with Rosalyn Landor, was wonderful.

I got this book for $3.93 and it was absolutely a billion percent worth it.

A lot more than lose ends

In this final book of the Son’s series many ongoing conflicts are resolved, but the new ones are more fun. The stranded together scenario works well here, and we get to see both characters grow up. Caer learns to see Izzie through a new lens and sees the flaws in his treatment of her as well as the repercussions of that treatment. She sees his inherent goodness even though she has painted him the villain for years. When you strip away the resentments and misunderstandings these two witty and lusty highlanders bring their courtship and the series to a satisfying end.

Book 5 - Series end - The last one

This final story centres mostly around Laird Kerr MacAlister and Gavin’s sister, Isobel MacKinnon.
Isobel being a trickster and the one that doles out small harmless, sometimes funny punishments to the clan has met her match with Kerr.
Kerr, knowing that Isobel is his partner in life adores all she does and hopes that one day soon she will accept him as hers forever.
A trick backfired has Isobel spending time with Kerr and finally giving into her feelings.
There is betrayal, quite a bit of danger and nearly loss.
This book is slightly different than the others as it only has Gregor and the other foster brothers in the story at the start and the ending, they do not pop in and out through the whole book.
In stating this, it was an excellent story that I didn’t want to end as I loved this book and the whole series very much.
I listened to the audiobook and loved the narration.

Loved this book/series

I have loved every book in this series! Each one was better than the one before imo. I don’t want this series to end! 😭
I would’ve like longer, more detailed epilogues on all but especially the final book… unless there are more to come???!!! 🙏🙏🙏

Is it really the end? I don't

I have to agree with a few other reviewers with regard to Isabelle's character especially in first third of the novel. When she was alluded to in the other stories, Isabelle is described as one who doesn't put up with any crap a no nonsense girl. However, she comes across as sullen and childish. By the end, she seems to grow into the person expected.

Highland Thief is book 5 in the series as all the Foster brothers are now married and it SEEMS that the reason for the attacks is finally discovered. Or was it? There were some questions asked that came across as foreshadowing then not addressed. And in the epilogue , McGregor mentions a brand new character AND he has not experienced a romantic situation. So is this the last book in the series?

I really hope there is more…

As other reviewers have said it doesn’t really feel like the end. Hopefully there will be at least one more book. They have to deal with the Campbells and Gregor has to find love again. I too felt that Isobel was quite childish in the beginning but understood later that her hurt feelings caused her to behave that way toward Kerr. I thought it was a great story and I’m not mad that I spent a credit on it.
