About this listen

Four irresistible tales of romance and adventure in the Scottish Highlands from the New York Times best-selling author of Highland Devil.

New York Times best-selling author Hannah Howell is a master of Scottish historical romance. In Highland Hero, she shares four of her finest short stories featuring heroes as wild and captivating as the Highlands themselves.

In this volume, you'll meet a dashing laird with an appetite for more than a Scottish beauty's culinary skills; a proud lord on a journey of rescue and desire; a sensual warrior at the center of one woman's dreams; and a handsome but somber Scot whose joy is reawakened by true love. These passionate romances will thrill you, seduce you, and warm your heart....

Satisfying snack.

Each story is a satisfying little snack. The reader does both male and female voices well and (thank god) does not mangle the Scottish accent.

Excellent

Characters are well drawn, plot is unique and writing is exciting. Add to that a wonderful performance by the narrator and you have a wonderful time of story appreciation. What a way to spend an afternoon.

4 Good short stories

I enjoyed each of these stories. I wasn’t certain I wanted less than a full story, and I was pleasantly surprised that each was complete.

The narrator has a perfect tone for her presentation. I will look forward to the improvement of creating distinct characters and gaining a better command of accents.

Short stories only

I had hoped that the four stories would somehow be tied together, but alas, 'twas not the case. Interesting enough on their own, yet lacking something.

Read the book

I really enjoy Hannah Howell’s books. But the narrator was horrible! She would put you to sleep. Ruined the story. If you enjoy Hannah Howell’s writing, read the book!

great story awful narration

I have never encountered a narrator this awful. She can't manage a Scottish accent (for a Scottish story), she speaks too slow (speed it up to 1.2 - it's a bit better). She pauses in the weirdest places in each sentence, so the words don't flow into a sentence right. It's like listening to someone with a lung issue talk, like she needs to stop to breathe every two or three words. She can't really do male or female voices, or really any voices at all, so during conversations it is almost impossible to tell who is supposed to be talking.

It is a painful slog but the story is worth it.

Bad narration

I enjoyed the story, but the narration sucked big time. There was hardly any inflection for the “Highlander” accent. And barely any difference in pitch to indicate whether a man or woman is speaking.
