He calls me his dark angel, but I’m merely a killer. A bringer of death.
Luca Davenport: He is my angel, sent to be my death bringer to save me from my tormentors and betrayers—those who sold me into slavery when I was only eight years old. Angel came in with guns blazing and black wings that were made to crush his enemies and envelope me in love. He belongs to me, and I belong to him. We are destined. After he saves me from my captors, we hunt down the remaining men who had abused me for eleven years to make them pay in blood.
Dante Varga: He is a broken boy of no more than nineteen. He sees me as an angel, but I’m simply a killer. An assassin for hire. I can’t save him. I can’t take care of him. There’s no room left in my dying soul to care about someone. Not anymore. But I can’t turn him away either. I should kill him. He’s a witness. But I feel compelled to protect him at all costs. Saving him will either shatter the ice around my heart or destroy me. Either way, Luca is dangerous.

By now you would think I’d be used to Courtney’s stories , but noooo. She keeps pleasantly surprising me.
Luca and Dante were two broken souls who learned to heal together. They were both deeply hurt and though their scars were different, they were just as deep.
Dante is a mercenary who was hired to take down a monster of a man. In the process, he encounters Luca whom attaches himself to Dante.
Luca was the victim of child trafficking and was treated as a property by the man Dante was sent to kill. To say that Luca went through hell and back, it’s a huge understatement.
But despite all that, Luca’s sweet and tender nature remained intact. And it’s this simple fact that Dante has no defenses against. Dante just can’t help falling for the broken boy who in the end saves him as well.
This is book one of The District series and it started with a bang.
My poor baby Luca

Y’all, This Was A Really Good Start To This Series. I Wanted To Read More Courtney. Dante And Luca Were A Really Good Couple. Luca Was Just A Ball Of Sunshine And So Adorable And Dante Was Just Dark And Brooding And SO Protective And I Loved Them Together, Being So Protective And Loving Each Other. The Side Characters All Intrigue Me So Much And I’m Honestly More Excited For The Rest Of The Series Then Anything😂 So I Cannot Wait To Continue The Series. The Action And Plot Mixed With Romance And Spice Was Also Such A Great Mixture And Was Really Amazing. Definitely Recommend This For All The Dark Romance Girlies With A Great Mixture Of Everything. Courtney, You Are Just AMAZING Girl And You Never Miss And I Cannot Wait To Continue The Series💕🫶

The Firm is one of those series where every single character is fascinating. I love the backstories that we get to glimpse as the plot unravels. Luca and Dante both suffered deeply at the hands of people who should have loved and protected them.
The instant chemistry was clear. Dante and Luca were magic together. I loved everything about them. Dante took this broken needy boy and helped him heal and become the man he was supposed to be. It was really cool to see the growth that Luca went through, amazing!
Harley Chase seems to get better with each book. I love the sound of his voice and how distinct each character is from the others. He is definitely one of my favorite mm romance narrators.
If you love the broken boys and the men that save them, I highly recommend not just this book, but this entire series!
You need this, trust me! So good!!!!!!

Luca is a 19-year-old man who has been kept prisoner since he was 8 years old, forced into "servitude" for older, rich men. He's been kept as child-like as much as possible, having been kept undereducated and ignorant about the world outside the mansion..Until Dante arrives to carry out a job and stumbles across Luca.
Dante knows he should "end" Luca, but instead decides to save him with the intention of letting him out into the world...until that pesky cold detachment begins to melt.
This book is the first in The District series, each following a different assassin. It has some very very dark subject matter, with heavy emphasis on brutal underage SA and physical, mental and emotional trauma. HEED THE TRIGGER WARNINGS.
That being said, Luca is adorable and while you do have to suspend a bit of belief as far as his non-aversion to intimate relations despite his severe se**al trauma, the story is good, with revenge as the main goal. Dante is so sweet to Luca after he thaws, and while cringy (to me) at first, I really loved their relationship by the end of the story.
The secondary characters are great, and we get to know them better in later books.
Harley Chase does an excellent job at the narration, and his Russian and Middle Eastern accents didn't make me cringe, unlike some other narrators do.
