About this listen

He calls me his dark angel, but I’m merely a killer. A bringer of death.

Luca Davenport: He is my angel, sent to be my death bringer to save me from my tormentors and betrayers—those who sold me into slavery when I was only eight years old. Angel came in with guns blazing and black wings that were made to crush his enemies and envelope me in love. He belongs to me, and I belong to him. We are destined. After he saves me from my captors, we hunt down the remaining men who had abused me for eleven years to make them pay in blood.

Dante Varga: He is a broken boy of no more than nineteen. He sees me as an angel, but I’m simply a killer. An assassin for hire. I can’t save him. I can’t take care of him. There’s no room left in my dying soul to care about someone. Not anymore. But I can’t turn him away either. I should kill him. He’s a witness. But I feel compelled to protect him at all costs. Saving him will either shatter the ice around my heart or destroy me. Either way, Luca is dangerous.

This book was amazing. I loved Luca. He was so broken and yet so strong. Seeing Dante fall for him despite not wanting to was amazing. Reluctant love story. Also the narration was amazing and did these characters so right.

Y’all, This Was A Really Good Start To This Series. I Wanted To Read More Courtney. Dante And Luca Were A Really Good Couple. Luca Was Just A Ball Of Sunshine And So Adorable And Dante Was Just Dark And Brooding And SO Protective And I Loved Them Together, Being So Protective And Loving Each Other. The Side Characters All Intrigue Me So Much And I’m Honestly More Excited For The Rest Of The Series Then Anything😂 So I Cannot Wait To Continue The Series. The Action And Plot Mixed With Romance And Spice Was Also Such A Great Mixture And Was Really Amazing. Definitely Recommend This For All The Dark Romance Girlies With A Great Mixture Of Everything. Courtney, You Are Just AMAZING Girl And You Never Miss And I Cannot Wait To Continue The Series💕🫶

Dante is a deadly, well-trained assassin who works for the assassin group "The District". He's somewhat cold and detached until, during a job, he finds a young man who had been kept prisoner since he was a child.

Luca is a 19-year-old man who has been kept prisoner since he was 8 years old, forced into "servitude" for older, rich men. He's been kept as child-like as much as possible, having been kept undereducated and ignorant about the world outside the mansion..Until Dante arrives to carry out a job and stumbles across Luca.

Dante knows he should "end" Luca, but instead decides to save him with the intention of letting him out into the world...until that pesky cold detachment begins to melt.

This book is the first in The District series, each following a different assassin. It has some very very dark subject matter, with heavy emphasis on brutal underage SA and physical, mental and emotional trauma. HEED THE TRIGGER WARNINGS.

That being said, Luca is adorable and while you do have to suspend a bit of belief as far as his non-aversion to intimate relations despite his severe se**al trauma, the story is good, with revenge as the main goal. Dante is so sweet to Luca after he thaws, and while cringy (to me) at first, I really loved their relationship by the end of the story.

The secondary characters are great, and we get to know them better in later books.

Harley Chase does an excellent job at the narration, and his Russian and Middle Eastern accents didn't make me cringe, unlike some other narrators do.

Whoever knows me knows Courtney is one of my fav authors of all time. I haven't read a book written by her that I didn't love with all my heart, and His Death Bringer is no exception.

Dante and Luca's story is... well... it's not easy to read, that's for sure. This book is also not for everyone. I beg you to read the TW and take them seriously because the things that are described in this book are deeply unsettling.

Luca is one of the strongest characters I've read, and his character development was spectacular. From the first moment we met him, he showed us how strong he is, but the more I read about it, the more in awe I felt. He is a fighter through and through. Continue living life, having hope, having love left in your heart after all those horrors shows how strong his spirit really is. He is broken but not beyond repair. He is broken, but he still had trust in his heart ( and love, as mentioned ) to continue fighting. He is light. He is Dante's light.

Dante is also a broken soul, but in such a different way from Luca. He closed himself to love, to hope, to life. He lives his life on an automatic setting, and when Luca comes into his life, he doesn't know how to handle all that. He learns how to do it, but it takes some time. He is not a cold-hearted b*st*rd, but he doesn't show his emotions in an obvious way.

The way Luca and Dante's relationship starts is unconventional, to say the least. The circumstances are the worst possible, but the love that grew up from that darkness is something beautiful to witness. As I previously said, Luca is Dante's light. They heal each other, they put one another back together, and learn how to trust someone else with your heart once again, or for the first time ( in Luca's case ).

Their bond truly is beautiful.

The found family in this book/series is not your typical found family, but it's the best. I think Courtney has a gift when it comes to this trope because damn, I love them so much. If you haven't read Alpha's Rejects series, do it. The found family in that one is top tier as well.

Now, another thing that I absolutely loved about this book is Cleo. My girl is the best of the best. The purest soul out there. My precious, precious baby. I wish she could be real and mine because she is the best girl and she deserves all the treats. The way she protects Luca from the first moment she sees him? Yeah, my m*rder princess found her soulmate.

I cannot wait to see where this series takes us, I can't wait to read the others' stories, and I hope I'll get to see more of Luca & Dante because d*mn I love them so much. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them.

The audiobook for this one was also top tier, Harley Chase did an amazing job, as always.

To say that I recommend this book would be an understatement, I love it so much that I'll never shut up about it. 10/10.

Wow, this was a departure from the author’s previous books I’ve read. I loved it! I love her sweet and sometimes angsty hurt/comfort stories, but this is a dark hurt/comfort. It’s intense; make sure you check your CW.

My heart broke for both of these boys, these men who had such rough starts in life. When Dante finds and rescues Luca, they both get a new chance at a happy life. They bring healing to each other that they had never experienced prior. I love them together, so much.

Harley Chase does a fabulous job of bringing both guys to life. His pacing and inflections are perfect, keeping me hooked from beginning to end.

Enthralling
