About this listen

Nomad didn't expect to run into anyone as he perused the city junkyard. He most certainly didn't expect he'd meet anyone like Azrael, an old man shrouded in mystery. Although they've never met, Azrael appears to know a lot about Nomad and his family. How his mother seems to be lost in another world. Nomad knows something isn't right, but when it comes time for Nomad to face the truth, only Azrael can help. This is a short story told at its natural length that you might find yourself listening to twice.

Short but worth the listen.

Great story, the voice acting was great and did an awesome job on different accents. He really made all the people shine with different personality.

Perfect commute listen!

Growing up in a small town, it’s easy to identify with Eric Stevens’s character Nomad. It’s easy to lose yourself in the simplicity of the small town setting. Additionally, Nick Podehl’s narration breathes life into the story. I loved how effortless he transitioned into each of the voices. It’s a wonderful short story read with perfection. Thank you both for this. I look forward to reading and hearing more from you in the future!

The opposite of Southern Gothic

The rural south is in a world where life can be cruel, where hard work is the only kind of work there is, and where nature is wild and must be respected. There are entire genres to describe this conflict ranging from Twain's biting wit to racially fueled violence to sinister gothic horror. His Guide in the Night is the other kind. It's honest and earnest in a way that is deeply uncool. Any deconstruction of this version feels unconscionably uncomplicated. Until you find yourself in a place for which cynicism leaves you utterly unprepared.

I've listened to several other books narrated by Nick Podehl and these rich visuals and driving dialog were perfect for him.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Short but great

An excellent story for a quick escape and to pass time. In the short 30 minutes I got lost in the teriffic narration of an incredibly written book.
