Publisher's summary

In this stunning novel about judgment, courage, heartbreak, and change, author Silas House wrestles with the limits of belief and the infinite ways to love.

In the aftermath of a flood that washes away much of a small Tennessee town, evangelical preacher Asher Sharp offers shelter to two gay men. In doing so, he starts to see his life anew - and risks losing everything: his wife, locked into her religious prejudices; his congregation, which shuns Asher after he delivers a passionate sermon in defense of tolerance; and his young son, Justin, caught in the middle of what turns into a bitter custody battle.

With no way out but ahead, Asher takes Justin and flees to Key West, where he hopes to find his brother, Luke, whom he'd turned against years ago after Luke came out. And it is there, at the southernmost point of the country, that Asher and Justin discover a new way of thinking about the world, and a new way of understanding love.

Southernmost is a tender and affecting book, a meditation on love and its consequences.

Well done!

I have been carrying around a hardcover copy of this amazing book for months, but have not been able to dedicate the time to finish... until I realized last week that it was out on audiobook.

I love all things written by @SilasHouse. I have devoured each and every one of his books. He’s an amazing author who I am proud to know. But just let me tell you- this book broke me down something fierce. So well written I felt every scene, every emotion. Well done 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 friend, well done! A recommended must read.

@charlietthurston did a great job with the narration, bringing this story to life. Great accents and character differentiation.

Born Country But Forever a Conch

I finished this in 2 days. Being from TN, gay, a preacher’s son, and in love with Key West you can imagine how this book affected me. Every single detail is spot on!!!! I wish it wasn’t finished. Maybe a sequel? Thank you for taking me back and for getting it right!!!!!

If the South is your home, you’ll love this one!!

I really enjoyed the dynamic between the male main character and his young son, and their relationship with the dogs. This author certainly doesn’t leave out the important little things as part of the big picture.

Wonderful

This is music and art painting words. I am sad to see it end. The people are real and the narration is musical to listen to. I would give it a 10 star rating. Asher Justin will live in my head for a long time

I Need More

I never wanted this book to end. This story felt so real because of the judgement and hate I’ve seen to be true in many churches. As a Christian myself, it’s painful to see. This story walked into that pain but showed redemption, the love of a father and son, and was a beautiful story. I need to know what happens next.

Story telling is productive

House’s writing suggests to me that storytelling trumps legislation or exhortation at eliciting change and growth.

Clearly I am not a wordsmith, but I sure do appreciate Silas House’s style. Olivia. Bougainvillea. Iguana. 💕

Heartwarming and gut-wrenching father-son tale

Silas House continues to deliver outstanding stories that in a small way, help correct some of society’s misunderstandings and prejudices. When told through the lens of a father-son tale, it can be extremely powerful. This is a fantastic book.
