About this listen

Somya Hilton has known nothing but a life of ultimatums. From a young age, it was her and her sister Eliza against the world. When both of them find love and start families of their own, Somya finally feels like she has the life she deserves.

Then tragedy strikes, leaving both her sister and brother-in-law dead and Somya to care for her niece Jazlynn, who is ten at the time. For Somya, there is no question that Jazzlyn should be with her. Her husband, however, has a difference of opinion.

Xander Tripp has always taken care of business. The product of a drug-addicted mother and a felon for a father, all he knows is hustling to survive. After the birth of his daughter left him a single father, Xander pulls himself together to be the parent she deserves.

Twelve years later they have a beautiful life, but Xander is lonely...until he meets the beautiful Somya, the recently divorced mother of his daughter’s new best friend. What starts as a friendly exchange, quickly turns into a beautiful, unexpected love.

Trauma bonded them, but is their bond strong enough to withstand the tests of a jealous ex and the return of Xander’s baby mama? Will Somya and Xander thrive under pressure, or fold under the weight the world on their shoulders?

True Love Always Wins!!!!

As with all of the stories I’ve read/listened to by Kimberly Brown, this one doesn’t disappoint!!!! I love the way she shows the highs and lows of relationships with maturity and good sense prevailing. This story proved how good “family” can be when priorities are set in the right perspective.
S/N: the female narrator was good, but the male actor really needs to learn to read more fluidly. Choppy ain’t sexy!

GREAT Story, DISAPPOINTING Male Narration

The male narrator was not the best choice for the story. He would’ve been great in one of the other books by this author for a character with a different background/ profession/etc but he is absolutely NOT the right choice for this story. The background of the character doesn’t fit the voice, it was so irritating that I stopped listening at his first intro! He is more of a thespian and sounds as though he should be narrating Shakespeare; he pronounces EVERY SINGLE SYLLABLE and the character he’s reading for absolutely wouldn’t. I love the author’s writing so much that I resumed listening but rolled my eyes with each chapter he narrated. Soooo disappointing! (I really don’t like writing bad reviews but this must be stated because it can likely impact sells).

Male narrator

The male narrator was terrible. I do t like being yelled at while listening to a book. I stopped listening 3 times.

Great Storyline

I finally finished this audiobook and I did enjoy the story. For the MMC to have vitiligo along with his daughter added a layer to this. Add in the other drama filled plots and it was a nice journey.

As far as the narration: I wasn’t a fan of the narrators. The male sounded choppy and the female sounded robotic at times. Her EJ voice stressed me out.

That didn’t take away from the story for me. I would recommend the story to others as it was really good.

Awesome story, but the male narrator was "meh"...

STORY😍❤️
This incredibly heartfelt story explores the meaning of "family" and the role of redemption. I love Kimberly Brown's writing. She is a masterful storyteller and the main characters in this book were mature and swoon-worthy. This is a 5-STAR read without a doubt.

NARRATION 🫤
It pains me not to give 5 stars to this work, but this is an audiobook so I have to keep it real about the narration. The male narrator, while a talented voice artist, was a NOT a good fit for this book. The male character's backstory is that this brotha had to "get it out the mud"... he's got some edge to him. You cannot have a narrator sounding like he's doing a table read of Othello for this character. When he pronounced "the -itis" like he was in Victorian England, I almost lost it. It was frustrating to listen to the chapters that he narrated. Ebony could have (and should have) narrated the entire book by herself. She did a good job voicing characters of different ages. I enjoyed the chapters that she read.

Loved it

This was a really good book. I know a lot of people don’t like K Bernard’s voice. I felt like that the first time I heard his voice. He grew on me eventually. I was listen to his narrating now. He’s not all bad. He and Ebony did a good job and Kimberly Brown never disappoint good job!

growth and maturity

No one wants to be held accountable for past errors but growth requires that very thing. The character development was very strong

I enjoyed the storyline but…..

I hate to do this but I just could not get with the narrators, mostly the male narrator. The storyline was good but it just felt off. Jakobi and Wesley would’ve killed it.

Male narrator is so freaking extra. I had to stop and read the reviews. He is making it very difficult.

Good story, bad male narrator

I love the story line but the male narrator is horrible. He does not match the character at all. unfortunately, I can't finish listening. I'm just going to read the book instead. I'm disappointed that I can't return it due to not having a current audible membership.
