Insightful account of Timothy McVeigh

This was an insightful account of the life and actions of Timothy McVeigh and the actions that lead to the attack on the federal building in Oklahoma. The book is based on extensive research and primary source accounts and paints a detailed picture of the events. Where the book is less successful is in creating sloppy links between McVeigh’s actions and the actions of the January 6th events at the capitol building. The author questions why Republican lawmakers reacted differently for the two events - perhaps the level of plotting that went into one and the use of explosives and number of deaths should be considered! Would have had 5* if that kind of parallel had been put to the side (or analyzed and justified based on research and evidence).

Read it twice ( listened).. Very intriguing for me.

Deep into the lives and minds of McVeigh and Nichols. Very intriguing for me…obviously since I listened twice - albeit a few months apart. So hard for me to understand such hate that one would go to such extremes….Toobin deeply exposes the mind of McVeigh - his deviousness - his rationals. Scary that he is only one of that ilk.

Riveting, storyline and compelling thesis on right wing extremism in America.

Great book — well written and researched, with a compelling thesis on right wing extremism in America. It is a must read for Americans who are genuinely concerned about the future of our Republic.

Great read.

I was already familiar with the story of Timothy McVeigh, but I loved all of the facts, that Mr. tube and put in the story that I didn’t know. The book was well researched, and very engaging.

Want To Understand January 6th 2021?

Read this book and you will better understand what is happening out there and how it all led up to the political chaos The US is now experiencing, and will continue to experience unless we can change. Timothy McVeigh and his kind are led to their thoughts and actions by a small group of political and media elite who act solely in their own financial and power interest at the expense of our nation and society.

Excellent!

Fabulous! Since I live in McAlester, I have always obsessed over this case! I hate Timothy McVeigh with every ounce of my being. There is no doubt of that , but I do have a criminal justice degree & critical thinking skills. You did a great job of not showing bias ! Just the facts . Great job !

Another winner

Another excellent book from this very fine author. Very well written, and well structured. Clear well paced narrative, objective tone, not sentimentalized. . Persuasively describes how McVeigh's views have moved closer to the mainstream in US culture since the mid 90s. An engaging reading by the author. I'll buy anything he writes.

history repeating itself

An excellent and thorough review of the Oklahoma City terrorist attack. I read this hoping to understand more about the ties between guns and religion in the US, and how Tim McVeigh, as a human being, could have developed the mindset to take the lives of so many innocent people. Jeff does a great job of taking the reader on that sad, horrific journey.
