About this listen

Hot Pants in Hollywood is a showbiz memoir and much more. It tells of a baby boomer's life on steroids.

Susan Silver was one of the first female TV comedy writers with credits like the Mary Tyler Moore Show, Maude, Bob Newhart, among others. As the lyrics from the iconic Mary Tyler Moore Show said, "She made it after all!" From another Midwest town, Milwaukee, with all its '60s' values and normalcy, Susan went on to fame and fortune in Hollywood, had a successful career as one of the first women in TV sitcoms, and reinvented herself in different prominent arenas in New York. Along the way, as she "Searched for Mr. Adequate", also the name of her well-received dating column, she had many romantic adventures, loves, and loss, and she's still here!

Though her story is unique, due to the career she chose, her life is relatable to all women looking for advice in work or love: baby boomers dealing with divorce, dating, aging parents and young women of today. If you love showbiz and want to know what it's like behind the scenes, Hot Pants in Hollywood is very funny...sexy, too!

There is a bonus chapter called "Vibrator Number Two" just for the Audible version! As Brittany Spears sang, "Whoops, I did it again!" Enjoy!

Raw, real, powerful!

This was an incredible book filled with lots of emotion. I found myself cheering, laughing, crying, getting angry at those who hurt her etc etc. I felt every emotion possible while listening to this true story of Susan Silver’s life.
She is not only a talented writer but an inspiration for women. No matter what life throws her way, she continues to rise and rise again.
PS loved hearing about all the celebrities!

Fun, Sexy, insightful

This is a fun read, full of sexy experiences and encounters the author had with many famous and not-so-famous people. (e.g., the chapter entitled: "Famous people I did not sleep with".) The reader will enjoy her short profiles of so many interesting people. She writes candidly and well with humor and insight, Hers is a moving story of great successes mostly as a writer for famous TV shows and plays, but also her failures and then finding a role as a supporter of Israel. The final chapters describe how, after many relationships, she found her role as "Aunt Susie" for a few Israeli soldiers and a wonderful little girl who had recently recovered from a major heart defect and surgery. Her story demonstrates the value of friendship and love as she matures into an increasingly generous and loving person.

wonderful, fun, tell... almost

Susan's writing of her life, loves, and family will make you smile ( when you most need it ); think about what you would have done in your own life stories; and shed a few tears with her memories of love. I didn't want it to end as her art of story telling (real life BTW) was what I needed.. at the right time.

Thank you for sharing Susan.

Laugh out loud funny, and interesting insights

This book is laugh out loud funny, but, perhaps more importantly, it provides deep insights into early hollywood TV comedy shows, as told from the perspective of one of the women who broke the glass ceiling in the industry. There are also several parts about her parents, husband and family that are deeply meaningful and touching. As you would expect, a memoir written by one of the best television writers of our times is....well written and funny. It's a great listen. I highly recommend it.

Smart, funny, and very moving.

Susan Silver is a very talented and funny writer. This fun and engaging book puts us inside the Mary Tyler Moore show, and we marvel as Ms. Silver rubs elbows with Elvis, Jim Morrison, Clint Eastwood, and so many more fascinating artists! She’s brutally honest but also quite vulnerable in her book - her narration is terrific, because she was THERE, and we hear exactly how so many escapades and hard lessons happened. Highly recommend!

Courageous, Candid, Fun

Highly recommended this wonderful read/listen. Its read by the author (which I always love); and delivered with style, humor, and grace. Feels like having a late night conversation with a trusted friend. Its so interesting to hear the behind the scenes from some of my favorite shows like Mary Tyler Moore, told through the lense of a hardworking and talented woman who made the times work for her, while adding humor to our worlds through her work and what will always remain the most classic of television. I adore how candid, courageous, and self aware Susan Silver allows herself to be in this book. I recommend it to anyone looking for a fun read, women writers/entrepreneurs, those interested in self reflection and honest autobiographies, and everyone interested classic television & sitcoms. Come for the comedy, enjoy the unashamed (fun & spicy) honesty, stay for the heartfelt. A fabulous time indeed. Thank you Susan!
