About this listen

Summer may be over, but she’s ready to bring the heat.

When her boyfriend shattered her universe last spring, Addy convinced herself that if only she were a little hotter, then she could have kept him. Which is why her senior year goal is to get revenge.

Step one: Join the swim team and get seriously fit.

Step two: Find some gorgeous new arm candy to take to ex’s big Halloween party and make him crazy with jealousy.

Step three: Try not to fall super hard for said arm candy.

Gray Turner is a California transplant with goals of his own: Get the swim team to regionals, get the scholarship he needs, and get out of this town. Too bad some girl with zero swim skills just joined the team. Private lessons seem like a good idea...until lessons start to feel like something more.

Addy and Gray started the season with specific plans, but falling for one another wasn’t one of them.

So Incredibly Cute

This sweet book has a romance that makes a person wish everyone had that high school experience.
Addy is sweet and identifiably flawed, but not in the roll-your-eyes 90s rom-com type of way. Grey is hot, but not in the cheesy-romance “Yeah. Right!”, kind of way. Together they are golden, even if swim team gold might be asking for too much.
A perfect coming of age story.

An entertaining YA listen

Overall, a fun to listen to story. Chapter structure of having events told from each of the main character's point of view, with Tanya Dougherty's clear storytelling and well defined characters, provides easy access to the tale. While the main male character (Gray) at times seems a bit too good to be true, and some of the writing a bit clunky (in particular, the tech vernacular is a bit off at times in this book), the coming of age themes are dealt with in funny and endearing ways.

Not bad

This ended up being a lot better than I thought it was going to be. Addy's complete lack of self worth really turned me off and I honestly hated the goals she set for herself. I mean, the wording wasn't horrid-join a sport to get fit and make her ex jealous- but in her mind it was just so she could be hot since she didn't believe she was simply due to her ex started dating someone right away. And the fact that her friends went along with it? Ugh.

However, I did enjoy that she grew out of this by the end. And the relationship growth she has with Gray was really cute. Friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes, and I thought it was written rather well.

Love this clean YA romance!

I really enjoyed this book and the narrator did a fantastic job! I liked that there were a few different possibilities that could go wrong as their break up/ misunderstandings. Another sweet HS romance I loved reading.

Cute and sweet YA

Cute and sweet story. Narration was good. Kept me into the story. Nice start to a series. No cliffhanger, but definitely ended leaving me with intrigue to the rest of the series character development.

sweet, clean coming of age friends to lovers story

The cover model is exactly how I envisioned Addy in this book, and the narrator did an excellent job bringing her to life. She's bubbly, peppy, energetic - nothing can get her down. Gray is quiet, hard working, determined to win a scholarship.

In this friends to lovers story (the clean, highschool version) Addy and Gray learn a lot about themselves, each other, and the goals they set. I liked that this story was really about their relationship and personal growth and wasn't all about the physical as so many of the books in this genre are.

It is book 1 of a trilogy about three friends; the epilogue is a teaser for book 2. This book can be read as a standalone.

Enemies To Lovers With Life Lessons

This was a fun young adult listen. The narrator did a great job bringing this to life. I really felt like the Addy & Gray were telling me the story. And it is only one narrator! Addy has a goal to join the swim team and get fit. Then she will bring the hottest arm candy to the Halloween party. Turns out she is not very good. Gray's only focus is swimming. He is given the assignment to help Addy. They butt heads and are the last ones you'd think to fall for each other. But spending time together let's them get to know each other. This was a great enemies to lovers story. It was also full of lessons that a person of any age could benefit from. I don't want to spoil anything. But its a must read/listen for young adult innocent romance fans. Especially teenagers.
